After bickering for more than a year in Atlanta courtrooms over their father's estate, the surviving children of the civil rights icon have agreed to the division of King's property, including the sale of King's archives and the ownership of romance letters King penned to his wife, Coretta Scott King, who died in 2006.
The ugly wrangling among Martin Luther King III, sister Bernice and brother Dexter had threatened to air personal and financial details of King Inc., the family trust that oversees the civil rights leader's holdings.
Martin and Bernice had sued Dexter in 2008, accusing him of improperly running King Inc., which all three control.
The agreement signed before Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural D. Glanville declared the siblings as legally "deadlocked," meaning a temporary custodian will operate King Inc., while the siblings work on their personal relationships with one another.
They seem to have a lot of work to do.
Dexter has signed a $1.4 million book contract for an autobiography of Coretta Scott King, but Bernice, who is administrator of her estate, refused to supply photos, papers and letters between the King parents for the project. Dexter then sued his sister for the release of the material.
It's sad that a man who lived his life in the name of peace would have his children fight in such a public way.
With the peace accord among the three King children, though, perhaps Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta will finally be able to rest in peace.

You are so correct. The king children do expect the rest of us to support them.

Of the four King children, all received college degrees except Dexter who was a drop-out of Morehouse College, the school his father attended. Yolanda went to Smith College, Martin III got his degree from Morehouse, and Bernice received a Bachelor's from Spelman College, a law degree and a divinity degree from Emory University.

And what have they accomplished by it except making a bofoon of themselves. All these so called children of the civil rights leaders ought to reexamine their heads and find a better job to do.
Just few years ago, the son of Abernathy was found at the airport with illicit substance. Something he can arrive home and ask somebody to obtain for him should he choose to follow that path. They are all a disgrace.

Regardless of their race/ethnicity they are not any better or any worse than other people from privileged backgrounds. You find skeletons in everyone's closet sooner or later!

This is so sad about Martin's family, but money will bring the devil out in the best of us. To bad they could not show respect for their parents and come to an agree quitely.

I think Dexter's the problem, he seems arrogant. He probably believes since he's light skin, he's better. Maybe it's insecurity coz he didn't finish college.

Wow I'm am surprised, the children of Martin and Coretta King is fighting over money, I would expect much more from them. These are the most respected people in the world and they are acting like this, if all three of them is controlling the estate they should get an equal share but I guess it's not that simple. Their parents must be rolling around in their graves on how they are acting with each other and over money.

For those of yall who are saying that the King children never went to college, let me enlighten you. Bernice went to her aunt's alma mater, Spelman. And Dexter attended Morehouse but didn't graduate. Yolanda went to Smith College, and MLKIII also attended Morehouse.
It's a shame that they could not get along and had to file lawsuits. They should work out their problems. Since they are in the public eye, they should at least try to get along to preserve their family legacy. All MLK wanted was peacefulness.
