Wait a minute now. Unless I'm reading it wrong, it looks like racial profiling has jumped from the 'hood to Capitol Hill.
According to a Politico article, the House Ethics Committee is actively investigating seven African American lawmakers under full-scale ethics probes, but not a single white person serving in Congress is under the same kind of scrutiny.
To be clear, the report came from the Office of Congressional Ethics, which is a quasi-independent agency. There are as many as 23 Democrats and six Republicans named, but only Maxine Waters (pictured above), Laura Richardson (D-Calif.), Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick (D-Mich.), Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), Donald Payne (D-NJ) and Donna Christensen (D-V.I.) are the subject of all-out investigations.
Several of the allegations involve the use of corporate funds to pay for lawmakers' trips to the Caribbean. All of those accused deny any wrongdoing.
Now, I'm not saying that hands caught in the cookie jar shouldn't be smacked. Goodness knows former Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.) had to go after getting busted with $90,000 in his freezer, which was intended as a bribe for a Nigerian official. It does seem funny, though, that the only people whose investigations have gone this far are black representatives.
What's worse is the the Office of Congressional Ethics was actually created by Democrats to weed out any questionables within their ranks. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) came up with the idea after the Jack Abramoff scandal.
There really shouldn't be a problem with keeping a watchdog's eye on lawmakers, since our pennies go to pay for everything they do and then some. At the same time, though, I've got to question whether these folks are being punished for being corrupt -- there is still a question as to whether it was wrong for a corporation to sponsor trips to the Caribbean, and Rangel hasn't been found guilty yet of not paying his taxes -- or if it has something to do with their support of the Fairness in Cocaine Sentencing Act and the repealing of mandatory minimum sentencing effort.
A major issue is that there aren't enough voters aware about what's happening to make a fuss, but I dare say it's an insidious way to neutralize empowerment within the black community. Take away political clout and what do you have?
Don't get me wrong, corruption is corruption, but I'll be less skeptical of what's going on when I'm seeing that it's not just black folks who are thrown into the fire for bad behavior.

They are all thieves no matter what color or what party they belong too. Over paid for their 3 days of work, Primo health care, retirement for life with just a few years in DC. People who make the money working, have every right to voice there view when Tax Cheats are in Government. Does Wrangel deny he didn't pay the taxes?? We all know the President HAD to have another Tax Cheat work for him because he was valuable. Is the Pres a racist for letting the whtie Tax Cheat get away??

Its about time someone did something to hold these crooks (I could care less wether Dem or Repub) accouontable for their actions. Most of these Congressmen/women and senators are getting filthy rich off the tax payers by hiding the facts that they are all dipping into the cookie jar of the US tax payer.

I always hear that one of the reasons that the death penalty is wrong is because there's an unfair and disproportionate number of blacks on death row and in our prisons generally. Suggestion: Let's execute 2 or 3 whites and Latinos (whatever the ratioj may be) for every black we execute until everything is even.

Black Americans need to STOP perpetuating the lie, the myth, and the exaggeration that we are still "victims". The only thing we are victims of is our own unwillingness to let go of the past. Let's lose the chained license plates and STOP giving white folk reasons to look down on us. Most of them are NOT racist and ya'll know it!

Yes, racism is alive and the cause of it all are the blacks. They are their own worst enemies. They get what they deserve and it's racist. Others get what they deserve and it's justice?

What about Randy "Duke" Cunningham? He was caught and even prosecuted and sent to jail. The former Governor of Chicago, Blagoiovich or something like that. A senator from Virginia that got busted for the murder of a page, they never found her body etc. I could go on and on. It may feel like you're being picked on because blacks ARE being investigated more often. There are more blacks in office so to keep up with the same number of investigations blacks MUST be investigated more, there are more blacks in these positions, so it's warranted.

I am sick and tired of a hand full of Politicians and rabble rousers playing the race card every time light is shed upon some illegal activity being conducted. Its time for all americans to be treated fairly and EQUALLY; time to abolish the affirmative action - give them extra credit for doing nothing - plan.

Michael Steele is a 'Gentleman of Color'. To me, it will never matter what Office or Position he ever holds. Having met him, I can very honestly say that the Man is just that: A Man. There's no act going on here, and you immediately know it from the moment you begin to speak with him. He is one of the few people who, not only has their head on straight, but doesn't have to use the race card for anything.

CARMARGER UNDO, YOU HAVE GOT TO BE WHITE, PRAISING THE WORK OF UNCLE TOM STEELE. THIS LEADER OF YOUR PARTY TUCKED HIS TAIL AND WENT BEGGING FOR FORGIVENESS FROM RUSH LIMBAUGH WHO IS A RACIST AND PROUD OF IT. LIMBAUGH HAS SAID THAT HE WANTS THE PRESIDENT TO FAIL. IF THE PRESIDENT FAILS, SO DOES THE COUNTRY. STEELE CONDONES SUCH IGNORANT DRUG ADDICTS AND ALCOHOLICS AS GLEN BECK WHO CALLS THE PRESIDENT HITLER. YOUR PRAISE OF HIM MEANS THAT YOU THINK LIKE HIM AND OF COURSE HAVE THAT SAME ANTI AMERICAN ATTITUDE. IF YOU WANT THE COUNTRY TO FAIL, YOU, RUSH, GLEN AND OTHERS ARE ANTI AMERICAN
