Today while hanging out with Rev. Al Sharpton in the studio for a show, I found my mind reflecting deeply on the recent drama between Tiger Woods and his wife, Elin Nordegren. In spite of the fact that I was sitting next to the man who epitomizes race relations in America, no one brought up the fact that Tiger Woods is involved in an interracial marriage. It wasn't because we were afraid to go there, it was just that there were more pressing issues to discuss.
One caller, though, called in to the show and slammed the issue on the table like a five-pound slab of raw chicken, using the old O.J. Simpson argument, "Had he been with a sister, none of this would have happened."
While I don't agree with the caller's assertion (we know that marital drama knows no racial boundaries), I found it interesting that some of the black women in the studio smirked and looked at the floor, as if to say, "I hear ya, girl." These smirks were not built on agreeing with what the woman said, but rather, on the disappointment and resentment that many black women have felt about the fact that Tiger Woods almost never seemed to show any interest in African-American females. Unlike guys like myself, who admire Tiger for his achievements, I know a long list of black women who could care less if Tiger were to take his golf clubs and jump off the side of a 10-story building.
The woman's comment about race, led me down a trail of thought about Tiger Woods, race and how this incident is going to change the way we see him forever. One clear point that can be made relates to the O.J. Simpson case. Before he was acquitted for the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson in 1995, Simpson was America's favorite black man: He didn't have anything to do with the black community, and white America loved him as much as they loved themselves. He simply turned in his "brother card"-never to be seen in a soul food restaurant again. Fate changed all that, though, as O.J. ended up relying on support from the black community to get him through his toughest hour. White America abandoned him for committing a mortal sin: Hurting a beautiful woman with blond hair and blue eyes. Had Nicole Brown Simpson been black, it is arguable that O.J. would never have been dealt with so harshly for the next 15 years.
Tiger may be in a similar situation with his wife Elin. I seriously wonder if Elin struck Tiger with that golf club, given that Tiger was going in and out of consciousness and drove straight in to a tree. It's odd to me that one of the most focused human beings on the planet was unable to dodge large objects in the path of his automobile. But regardless of the strange facts coming out, given that Tiger is the one being accused of committing adultery, one can only wonder if our society will decide that Tiger is the bad guy in this incident. Should this incident turn out to be a case of domestic violence, it should be made clear that if Tiger didn't hit his wife, he is not the one who should be charged and vilified. There is no excuse for committing violence in a relationship, period.
We have to remember that the world changes quickly, right before our eyes: No one ever thought that O.J. Simpson would be public enemy No. 1, and it was once a pipe dream for Barack Obama to become President of the United States. So, the idea that Tiger Woods could become ostracized by the American public for the dirt now being released about his private life is not out of the question. I am not sure in which direction this saga is going to go, but I can guarantee you this: It's going to get deeper before it's done, since the world has been waiting to see the real Tiger Woods.

As far as I'm concerned, tiger woods is just one of the many OREO (cookie)out there, who had to lose himself to gain acceptance in the world that he's working so hard to exist in. People do have choices in whom they choose but from the beginning of time...and based on his own comments during interviews...tiger doesn't know who he truly is. Hence, his 'all white' choices.
I also heard the statement about his wife "getting ghetto on him". Whether it is true or not, what's wrong with being ghetto? Why is it that everything about black existence is so wrong in this world?
I take this opportunity to applaud those who are making their way in this world with a true sense of self.

That is pure crap!
Tiger Woods made his name by being excellent at what he does, play golf!
He did not have to be anything else to anyone else. Those who love the game, and the skill/excellence Tiger has shown most of his life in playing the game is all he needed to be recognized and one of the best in the world, white or black!
Tiger never said he was not black! Tiger Woods loved his black father with all his heart and he always had his father in the lime light with him! His father is black so how in the world can you folks (mostly black people) say that he does not want to be black?
Of course black folks heard that rumor and ran with it not knowing exactly what Tiger actually said.
Leave the man alone. If you don't like him so what? Move on, and mind your own business.

Now don't get me wrong. I am not "black" as you people refer to yourselves nor am I of African descent.
Mariah Carey coming from an African American father and who was raised by a Caucasian mother...in opera houses, identifies more with the African American community...light years more than tiger and a few others of his kind. Yes, he plays golf which is a "white" dominated game and this might speak to the fact that he's mostly surrounded by Caucasians but that is no excuse for not connecting with who he truly is...an African American male. A group that has been so marginalized in this country. I don't see him making any improvements to his community in terms of motivational talks or in any way for that matter and he has the power to make changes but still he turns a blind eye and let me reiterate...trying to be who he's NOT! I hope the African American community treats him at this time as how he treats it.
The media painted a pretty picture of Mrs. Woods even though it is alleged that she was an aggressor to the incident and they are now about to draw his name into the mud. I hope all of you that are paying mouth piece are willing to go out there and support him.

OREO...No...Being Ghetto is more like an OREO...The White Man does not fear Ghetto, He Fears Tiger.....He is THE number one Athlete in PRO Sports Today. That is quite an accomplishment. If all BM could be as disciplined and had his work ethic, Wow that would be something. WM fear that and WW desire that. As far as the man not knowing his ethnicity, believe me, his dad and mom, who is Asian, made sure he was aware of who he is. Notice...the man wears Black pants and a Red shirt. And then when he wins the US Open, they add a Green Jacket......subtle, yet effective. PEACE.

I understand the anger a black woman feels when she sees black men constantly look past her to the white girl or Asian or Latin girl standing behind her. I on the other hand think his wife's race has NOTHING to do with him cheating on her. A black woman to say it would have been different if he were with a sister is not even a relevant comment. Why? Because clearly he likes white women! lol Cheating should be the focus honestly his infidelity is disappointing for me just because the sanctity of marriage in general is almost "played out" "everybody cheats". NOT TRUE! I don’t care that he is rich. I don’t care that he is Tiger Tiger Tiger woods yall. I care only about the fact if he had not got caught dipping how long would he have been dipping lol. If he made his commitment to God, than he broke his vow to God and broke a ten commandment. Yall see I wrote "if" just cause he's black, or one quarter of a half nugget black, that doesn’t mean he believes in Jesus (God).
What if he brought his WIFE an STD? What is she gave it to their new baby while breast-feeding? It's not fair for black women to make comments like it is not important because she's white. Like I said before I understand the pain black women feel to have their men a lot of times look at them like they are not good enough, but there are time when you should not make it a black or white thing and make it a wrong or right thing.
Peace

Syreeta, You are taking the focus off of the guilty and placing it on some random black woman's back. If he scr@wed the other chick, that is his fault and no one else. Where you there when all of this behavior was going on in the radio station with Boyce? Did you hear or see any of these so called black women make comments or gestures? I doubt if there where that many black women present and if they were, I doubt Boyce was paying any of them any attention. You black women love to fall for this mess every time. TIGER SCR2WD ANOTHER WOMAN, GOT BEAT BY HIS WIFE, HIT A TREE AND IT'S A BLACK WOMAN'S FAULT. You know you have to be sick to fall for that one.

@ Syreeta,
Point taken; women of any race should be able to identify with his wife's pain, especially if you're married. Tiger Woods prefers white women, thats his choice. In fact, he was probably raised around predominantly white people; thus being attracted to white women isnt a big leap. Am I a Tiger Woods fan? No-Am I bothered by the way he plays up every other race he is EXCEPT black? Yes; but that has nothing to do with this incident involving his wife. How many of you would want the media & everyone else in your business if you had a domestic dispute with your spouse?

Don't get mad at black women. Black women have NOTHING to do with this one. LOL! Do you see how pathetic people like you are, dragging folks into something they have nothing to do with. Like Mr. Boyce said, most black women could care less about Tiger. You are either a silly behind white chick or an angry black man. Bit by bit, everyone is seeing both of you for the absolute idiots you are. LOL!
