Lamya Cammon, 7, was sitting quietly in her first grade class, absentmindedly twirling her braids. The little girl's teacher, whose name is being withheld, grew tired of seeing Cammon play with her dozen or so braids, so she called Lamya to the front of the classroom.
The first-graders watched in disbelief as their teacher took out a large pair of scissors and cut off one of Lamya's braids. Amid the snickers of her students, the Milwaukee teacher threw the braid in the garbage, sent the crying youngster back to her seat, then said, "Now what you gonna go home and tell your momma?"
Lamya claims that she was not twirling her hair loudly nor was she being disruptive. When the child told her mother, Helen Cunningham, found out what happened, she immediately went to the school to confront the teacher.
Cunningham tried to discuss the issue with the teacher, but she was merely told that the act was done out of frustration. The teacher's response was not good enough for Cunningham, who thinks the teacher should be fired. She also reported the incident to the school district and local police. "Why would we want someone like that teaching our kids? We trust that once we send our kids to school, that they'll be safe," says the angry mom.
The Milwaukee Public School District has apologized and placed Lamya in a different classroom. Although the teacher remains, the Milwaukee Public School District is going through a disciplinary process. Cunningham also reported the incident to Milwaukee police, who issued the teacher a $175 disorderly conduct summons.

If she was crazy enough to cut that girls hair, she's crazy enough to hurt one of those kids! Get her out of the classroom and away from kids. Lock her up!!!!!! That child could be scarred and may not forget this!

You're right. Question: why are they withholding the name of teacher (witch) that committed this crime. That's what we need to find out and post her picture EVERYWHERE. She should be so ashamed and afraid.

I agree with you @ E. This woman sounds mentally unstable. Makes homeschooling as an option look better and better.

I JUST THINK THAT THE LITTLE GIRLS MOM NEED TO CONSULT A GOOD LAWYER AND SUE THE HELL OUT OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. APPARENTLY THE DISTRIC DID NOT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY BECAUSE THE TEACHER IS STILL EMPLOYED BY THEM AND WAS ONLY GIVEN A $175 FINE.

I so agree with you a simular thing happened to me when I was a little girl in school one of my braids came out i asked the teacher to help me tie it back some how ( I was about 6 yrs old) she took me to every class room and told each of the teachers something I can't remember but I do remember each of them laughing and the kids in the class laughing. That was in england in a catholic school, I am now 53 and I will never forget that time. Yes her mom sould do everything she can to get that teacher fired she is not supposed to lay a hand on any child and she assulted the little girl, she souldn't be around children she has a short fuse.

Oh please!! Cut the crap!
In the first place, the mother sounds like a nut case! She obviously has distorted the child's perception of who, what, and why of what to live! The mother has "scarred the child already!Their name aren't even the same! Where's the "motherly" love in that? The mother don't love the child enough to carry the same name? Then, the arrogant, hypocrite go blaming, and trying to arrest the teacher, because the teacher had to remind the little girl, her hair is not a subject?
As usual, the government, always the divider and spoiler, jumps the good teacher, and sides with the foolish, raving mother who don't have any life or parenting concepts to raise another generation of manufactured zombies!

The lady with the teaching certificate, I won't call her a teacher, should be immediately removed from the classroom. This is obviously not her calling.

Just like the girl with the braids, I won't call her a student, should be reprimanded and disciplined for not understanding her role in the fiasco.

This teacher should be fired. She should not be allowed to teach any where in the U.S.A.

If I were the girl's mother I would make that teacher's life a living hell by using the law to the fullest extent until the school fired her. She ought to be more than ashamed of herself.
Maybe she was jealous because she didn't have any hair of her own...or if she did have hair, cut hers off too...I wish a mofo would....
