Guantanamo Bay Detainees to Be Moved to Illinois

Today two White House officials, Illinois Sen. Richard Durbin and Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, are set to announce the closing of the U.S. detention facility, in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the securing of the Thomson, Ill., Thomson Correctional Center (pictured above) that will hold about 100 terrorists and federal inmates. The decision is controversial, as some do not want terrorists detained on American soil; however, others are optimistic about the jobs that would be created. [MSNBC]

Obama Wants Health Care Legislation Passed By X-Mas

President Barack Obama invited Senate Democrats to the White House with the hopes of uniting them for passage of health care legislation before Christmas. The version that is being pushed no longer includes the government-run public option. [AP]

Mother Receives Sentence for Child Abuse
Tabitha Rich, 22, has been sentenced with two felony counts for putting her then 33-month-old in boiling water and then burning his foot with a cigarette in 2008. The toddler sustained third-degree burns on his bottom in addition to other injuries. Rich will serve 25 to 39 months consecutively.
