In a recent interview with April Ryan, from American Urban Radio Networks, President Barack Obama responded to his critics in the black community, who seem to have grown substantially in number. According to a poll taken here on AOL Black Voices, 55 percent of African Americans think that President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder do a whole lot of talking and not much acting when it comes to issues that matter to African Americans.
During his interview with Ryan, the president had this to say:
"The only thing I cannot do is, by law, I cannot pass laws that say 'I'm just helping black folks.' I'm the president of the entire United States," Obama said. "What I can do is make sure that I am passing laws that help all people, particularly those who are most vulnerable and most in need," he said. "That in turn is going to help lift up the African-American community."
The president then went on to cite his job creation and health care initiatives as reasons that African Americans should feel that he is working on their behalf.
I am not sure who is advising the president on dealing with the African-American community, but perhaps I can help just a little bit:
1) Please stop giving us the same answers: That "rising tide will raise all ships" argument is played out, Mr. President. Intelligent black folks with a critical eye on politics know when they've heard the same thing multiple times. You can't come off like a broken record. Even the responses given to Ryan during the interview have been repeated in the past. You can't release the same record every time and expect black America to keep dancing to it. Saying something new can be a good thing. For example, rather than speaking out on the silly situation with Henry Louis Gates, you could have spoken out on behalf of Eutisha Rennix, the black woman left to die by paramedics who wanted to hurry up and eat their bagels.
2) If you can't make policies for any particular group, why does it seem that you are doing it for everyone else? I've seen special committees/task forces for the automobile industry, the protection of Israel, the gay/lesbian/bi-sexual community, the environment, bankers, immigrants, etc. Perhaps mentioning a task force to deal with the black unemployment gap or mass incarceration of African Americans might at least appease some of your black critics. But then again, maybe there is something in place that I don't know about - which means you need to spend more time getting your message out to the community. The point is that there appears to be a double standard in place, and we've all noticed that you almost never invite any African-American leaders to the White House. I hope you haven't become the successful relative who is ashamed of his family members.
3) Please stop giving us speeches on personal responsibility. I am still reeling over Obama's speech on Father's Day of 2008, where he seemed to enjoy separating black men as being especially irresponsible and the cause of their own demise. Eric Holder did the same thing last week. Any intelligent man who can see the mass incarceration and unemployment rates of black men, and then chalk it all up to "black men are just screwing up" is doing nothing more than continuing the same international and historical habit of scapegoating minority groups. We expect that from Bush, but not from you Mr. President. If you would not give a particular speech to white folks, then please don't give it to black people. Some of us have drank the kool-aid, but there are quite a few African Americans who are going to weigh your efforts against other politicians we could have supported. You are certainly better than John McCain, but people are wondering if you are better than Hillary would have been. I won't pass judgment on such matters until 2011.
The point, Mr. President, is that we consider you to be special. We don't treat you like everyone else and give reverence to you that has yet to be earned. The same respect we give to you, we'd like to see returned. Not in a way that offers preferential treatment, but in a way that simply acknowledges that we exist. Black suffering should not be invisible.

What a true idiot you are, Sammy Ol boy! I took the time to read Frank’s bllsht, and I'd like to know where the hell was I when the puppet accomplished all of those things. I'm NOT impressed.
Frank is a damned liar- how about the fact that Obummer doesn't salute the flag? How about the fact that he signed a Presidential Directive, AND spent 20 million of AMERICAN DOLLARS, to support the HAMAS- tell me why?
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog_post/relief_for_gaza/
*His first call to any head of state as president was to Mahmoud Abbas, leader of Fatah party in the Palestinian territory.
* His first one on one interview with any news organization was with Al Arabia television.
* He ordered Guantanamo Bay closed and all
military trials of detainees halted.
* He ordered all overseas CIA interrogation centers closed.
* He withdrew all charges against the masterminds behind the USS Cole and 9/11.
* Today we learn that he is allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refuges to move to and live in the US at American taxpayer expense.
* He's trying to pass a bill that in the end, American will be taxed out of the ying yang for insurance premiums.
He's thoroughly embarrassed America by becoming an apologist, and a kowtowing kneegrow to the leaders of other countries- in fact, selling us out, and weakening our position as THE Super Power. Why? To bring in his New World Order.
How about the fact that this crook is going to apply the Cap and Trade tax, to take even MORE hard earned money from Americans? Man, you and that Frank guy can go to hell. And you’re damned right- I wouldn’t read another word of this lying ass imbecile. That’s five minutes of my life that I’ll never get back. What a waste of time.
He’s probably on Ovomit’s payroll too. And guess what? Yeah, Bush was ALSO a TOOL, but it took him 8 years to spend 460+ billion, and unemployment never rose greater than 7%; and it took Ovomit less than a year to run up the deficit to 12 TRILLION, with an unemployment rate of 10+%!! And guess what?? We’re STILL waiting to see what jobs were created.
Tell me why these guys were involved in Ovomit’s campaign?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cdjHowKHvI
And if Ovomit was really an American citizen, then why is he spending MILLIONS of DOLLARS to KEEP HIS RECORDS SEALED? Why did HE, the FIRST “POOTUS” to do so, place a POOTUSdential directive on keeping the records of Presidents from public scrutinization?? Those are the actions of a GUILTY MAN, Sammy Ol Boy. So SAVE IT!!

I am a 46 year old black male. On the night that President Obama was elected I remember crying uncontrolably when they said ladies and gentleman the first family and this black family that we all worked so hard to get elected walked out on stage. I thought I was crying because finally things would be better for black folks now, but the very next day I got fired from my job over the same old crap and I woke up then. ITS STILL THE SAME OLD SAME OLD BULL S__T. The only thing we black folks have now is to hope and pray that this God thing is the truth. Everything we have been told since we been in America is a lie except slavery other then that santa the easter bunny tooth fairy frosty shall I go on. And when we die we supose to go to heaven where its still some white dude at the gate and another white dude in charge of everybody again. And with this story we have to die to find out if its true or not but until we die just give this white dude 10% of our income every week until we leave here so Rev. can have a caddy. Point is not only has the white man been suckering us but our own people have been suckering us for years as well. AND BLACK PEOPLE WE CAN'T AFFORD TO TRUST NOBODY. MOST OF US CAN'T EVEN AFFORD TO TRUST GOD. SO SAY IT FOLKS I'M BLACK AND I'M BROKE! SAY IT FOLKS I'M BLACK AND I'M BROKE! SAY IT FOLKS, I'M BLACK AND I'M BROKE.

ROFL!
We might be broke, but we're the richest culture in terms of love, consideration and compassion for each other. I wouldn't have it any other way. I am Black and I'M PROUD! The things in are rich in, money can't buy. Ask Tiger!
Whites folks might have material wealth but they are empty souls!

This comment is so sad and Sue is delusional. I'm Black and I'm not broke! And at the rate the government is going, I'll be middle class real soon. And that's by the grace of God. My pastor drives a Lexus, and he should. If he can teach me how God has riches and wealth for me to take hold of, why shouldn't it work for him? Nuff said. 1st Black president is a great accomplishment but we will have made is when a Black man or woman is elected president and the fact that they're Black is irrelevant. One thing I wondered the night he was elected was, "How long will it be before we get the 2nd Black president, if President Obama is a bust? Dwp, you are right to say nothing has changed but it shouldn't have, due to that fact that we elected someone that promised us change we knew he couldn't deliver. AS FOR SUE - if you define rich in love, consideration and compassion as killing each other at a higher rate than all other cultures, holding each other down and hating on each other like it's our jobs, then Black people are the greatest. Oh yeah, Tiger Woods might not be happy with his current situation but that does not mean that he is not happy. And he's still rich. In the past, I've been unhappy and poor and unhappy with money. If I have to take one in the future, I'll take the latter.

Dwp, I trust myself to do what is right for myself. My life has not been spent waiting around for someone to do for me, give to me, with my hand out. Neither have my family members, all of whom except for two, are college graduates. Most earned their degrees by WORKING and through scholarships and grants. Neither have my friends, most of whom are also college graduates who WORKED and received scholarships. No high school dropouts in the bunch. And guess what? The kids in these families are now doing the same thing.
No free rides, no waiting for handouts, no college fund bank accounts. Just work at crappy jobs and study, work at crappy jobs and study, work at crappy jobs and study during the school year, summer vacation and holidays. Money runs out, take a semester off to work to save for the next semester. For graduate study, work 40+ hour week jobs, school at night and weekends. Doing without.
If your life has been spent waiting around for God, the ministers, the government, the tooth fairy, and now for the President, or whomever, to do for you, if this has been your life then I feel nothing for pity for you.
It seems that you have missed the fact that there are millions of black people who have not been waiting for heaven or government handouts to get our reward.

Who told you GOD or Jesus was white? Jesus could not have been white since he came from the middle east. That something everyone that has been brainwashed to believe. If anything he was closer to black however, no one has an actual seen a picture of him. Anyone, I am still glad Obama won however, he cannot just help black people...he has to help everyone, otherwise, the conservatives would raise holy hell.

The best comment I have ever heard. Black people are just plain dumb. I guess it carries over from slavery and has been handed down ever since. Black women are the real problem. They still carry the seed of slavery, like white women carry the seed or racism.

"Dr. Boyce I really have to wonder about you sometimes. President Obama IS the president of all Americans, not just black America, he can not single out 1 race of people to help - don't be so biased and rediculous. You really need to open your mind and stop with the "us poor black people" attitude."
President Barack Obama is not representing all Americans. Those who have faced the music no the deal, the deal being President Obama and Attorney General Holder are disgraceful, treasonous, misfits, and neither of them fit to condemn U.S. born Black men.

....and the individuals talking against the Black men, especially the inner-city Black man, men, male, such as no good Barack "the Magic Negro Obama", and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder...
.....are still lost because believe it or not, there are truly law abiding Black men, women, and/or their siblings, etc., who play by the rules, who are doing everything right, supporting their families, abiding by the law, graduated from college, working dilligently and making the sacrifices to acquire marketable skills, etc., etc.,...
.......who have been branded as being criminal, good name and reputation tarnished without just cause, property taken from them without just cause, minors including infants being placed on probation, families of two parent homes broken up without cause by guess who?????
......no good university educated fools from within the Black community, elected officials petitioned for redress for all the foregoing.....
......to which more so than not, blatant incompetence on the part of our own university educated Black lawyers, social workers, probation officers, Yellow Journal Newspapers, elected officials, and/or misguided Black electorate who promote them, continue to be a huge problem.......
....meaning "inner-city Black America", is a part of this "Republic in Name Only"
....The Black community is basically a perverted community, as a result of the greed, sleaze, blatant incompetence, treason, tendency to oppress the truly innocent, while setting the truly criminal free, the culprit being Black America's own university educated class and not low level street criminals or the inner-city Black male.
Those who have faced the music know the deal, and these individuals are placing the blame where it belongs, the inner-city Black male not being a party to this truly un-American, blatantly treasonous, truly felonious and criminal activity.
The Black community, is being misrepresented by those who hold policy making positions, who are betraying the Black community daily. This amounts to forced taxation without competent representation.
Those who have faced the music know that President Barack Obama, no good U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Bill Cosby, et al...
...are quick to condemn the U.S. born Black male, U.S. born Black man.....
...but when challenged, with issues to make for constructive change, President Barack Obama, no good U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, the majority of the Democratic Congressional Black Caucus, would prefer to change the subject, live in denial, join in on the persecution and oppression of U.S. born Black people, play games of deceit when petitioned for valid claims for redress by their primary constituency, etc., etc.....
.....at the expense of the Constitutional Rights, and the well being of truly law abiding inner-city U.S. born Black men, women, and/or their siblings.
"Government is instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness of the people; and not for profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, the people alone have an incontestable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to institute government; and to reform, alter, or totally change the same, when their protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness require it." by John Adams, Thoughts on Government, 1776
In most any other community but the inner-city, "Government is Instituted for the Protection of its' Citizens".
"I appreciate the sentiment, but I would prefer Holder use the Department of Justice to sue those who illegally discriminate against racial minorities rather than holding encounter sessions in the lunchroom." by Melissa Harris-Lacewell
Indeed Melissa
.......and what you are leading to is what adds to the demise of the Black community, a demise to which individuals such as Eric Holder, and/or other misguided university educated class of the Black community are making it impossible for government to be instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness of inner-city residents.
In contrast, with no good leaders such as Pompous and disgraceful President Barack Obama, no good U.S. Attorney General Eric "Promoting Constitutional Protections for Known Terrorists and Enemies of the U.S." Holder, Congresswoman Diane Watson, Congresswoman Maxine "Kerosene" Waters, 2nd District Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas, former 2nd District Supervisor Yvonne "Brentwood" Burke, former Congressman William "Thieving" Jefferson, etc., etc.
.....Thanks, but no thanks to a truly inept elected Black leadership, and/or those who promote them, namely a misguided Black electorate.....
Those who have truly faced the music know the deal, and it is not racist Caucasians, Caucasians, the Bush Administration, former President George Bush, the Republican Party, former President Ronald Reagan, the Reagan Administration, etc., etc.,
http://www.wrongonrace.com/testimonials.asp
....who keep the Black community down, but rather the Black community itself, namely through those who hold university degrees, a misguided Black electorate, many so called well connected individuals, such as President Barack Obama, and/or other misfit elected Black leaders, and the like, who more so than not are affiliated with the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party being the Party of Slavery!
.....many of whom have done more harm to the Black community than the KKK, the Aryan Nation, and/or for that matter the entire Jim Crow/Slavery era, combined.
....in the inner-city, Government is not instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness of the people; and egregiously used for profit, dishonor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men, etc., which is indeed far more detrimental to the Black community....
"Finally, someone with the courage to take on black middle class prejudice against the black poor! Michael Eric Dyson skillfully punctures the nasty stereotypes that are so convenient to both white racists and black elitists." by Barbara Ehrenreich, author of Nickel and Dimed
...than blaming everything on the inner-city Black male.
Sincerely,
Michael Lofton

"President Obama Responds to Black Critics"
Again, Dr. Watkins, thank you for staying on point.
I'm a U.S. born Black man, who tunes in to Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, Glen Beck, etc.
Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, Glen Beck, etc., strongly emphasis that all elected officials are mandated by law to serve the people, and sworn under oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution and/or respective State Constitutions where applicable.
President Obama has no defense. President Obama is not honoring his oath of office. Furthermore elected officials are servants of the people and not the other way around.
President Obama and/or other misfits seem to think that people are servants of elected officials.
This is why President does not get it. Just look at this Health Care Bill, to where the people do not want this Bill, yet Obama continues to force this B.S., on the people.
"55 percent of African Americans think that President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder do a whole lot of talking and not much acting when it comes to issues that matter to African Americans."
Indeed, President Obama, U.S. Attorney General Holder, and/or other no good elected leaders affiliated with the Democratic Party, are all talk and no action.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Founding_Fathers_of_the_United_States
The Republican Party and the founding Fathers are not the problem
http://miikimike.blogtownhall.com/
http://againstallodds.blogtownhall.com/
President Barack Obama and/or other no good Democratic Party leaders are kicking the can in Afghanistan, Healthcare, the Economy, and last but not least upholding his, her, and/or their mandated oath of office to serve, protect, and defend the Constitutional rights of all law abiding U.S. citizens, U.S. born Black men, women, and/or their siblings being inclusive.
