So, I wanted to come up with a quick list of New Years Resolutions that black folks should observe. Commitment to your individual resolutions opens the door for your personal revolution, as 2010 can and should be the greatest year of your entire life.
1) Get your money right: Our financial liberation is the key to our social, spiritual and psychological liberation. Save 10 percent of your income, no less. If you can afford to tithe, then you can afford to save. Also, find a way to own something - stocks, your home, a business, anything. As I mention in my article about the "Half Million Dollar Happy Meal," your money should be alive, growing and it should be working for you.
2) Stand up for something greater than yourself: Most of us leave the struggle for fairness and equality up to other people. We sit and complain about the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons, but we don't do anything ourselves. Well, I'm sorry to tell you this, but the fight belongs to ALL OF US. There is something to be said about the old saying, "What would Jesus do?" Jesus would stand up for the poor and do what's right, and all of us have the ability to do the same thing. This year, find a cause you believe in and support it with all your heart. The greatest black leader in the history of the world is the one you see in the mirror.
3) Get educated: Education is one of the most critical keys to wealth building in America. Embrace the value of education in yourself and push it onto your children. Help them to understand that learning is a lifelong process, and that you must be educated in order to compete for jobs and opportunities. Additionally, the greatest weapon against racism is an intelligent and enlightened mind.
4) Get healthy: African Americans are usually at the top of every negative health statistic imaginable. Our likelihood of confronting the challenges of diabetes, heart disease and HIV/AIDS come from a stern neglect of annual check-ups, exercise, good choices and proper diet. The new decade should be a time where we eat smart and step up our game when it comes to taking care of ourselves and our loved ones.
5) Find and cherish the love in your life: Whether you realize it or not, life is a journey of love. When you are on your death bed, you won't remember the financial deals you made or the academic degrees you obtained. But you are surely going to remember the people you loved along the way and whether they loved you back. Don't wait until your loved ones are dead to tell them how you feel; tell them how you feel right NOW, and share that love every single day of your life.
In the year 2010 you are destined to be great. Don't embrace mediocrity and stomp out ignorance wherever you find it. Set your goals and achieve them, for this is the time to grow.

I only want to comment on #1-it says if you can afford to tithe then you can save. Let me begin by saying that tithing is not something you should be able to AFFORD it is just about the best thing you can do. It is giving and the Lord loves a cheerful giver. Tithing will afford you to have some of the things that you want. Me myself, I wouldn't have it any other way. Before I was a tither, it seems that I never had money, or a decent car or anything, but as I grew and knew better, I became a tither, NOW I am working towards paying for a home, I have a car, might not be what I want, but all in good time. It is just that things fell into place when I freely gave GOD what he said, the first 10%. Not to be afforded but to be given........

One thing i've learned is when you put your trust in GOD and his word you won't lose because GOD cannot and will not lie his word works.Ten percent of your gross daily, weekly, monthly, yearly income or increase belongs to GOD.When you follow GODS will and his plan i'm not saying your life will be problem free but you'll have what you need to meet the needs in your life.YOU CAN TAKE THIS TO THE BANK.START TITHE'N AND TRY GOD AND I PROMISE YOU WILL SEE YOUR MONEY GO FUTHER THAN WHAT IT DOES WITHOUT TITHE'N.. MALACHI 3 7-11...

To Dr. Boyce & members of our little family, Happy New Year and wish you all the best in the coming year. While I agree with the above top 5, I personally will like to add 1 more which is my top of the five. My. #1. Begin to unite and look out for each other. I believe if African Americans begin to unite and follow the term "it takes a village" less of our men will be in jail cells and our women on the streets and most of our young people (who is our next generation) would begin to follow the Obama doctrine. An eg. of this is if there is an opening in the Company you work for, let a brother or sister know, try to pull someone in that would not have known about the opening. One good deed is all it takes. HAPPY NEW YEAR to my brothers and sisters, I am the proudest African American alive!

I totally feel that it takes a village to raise a child. There are so many issues in our community and it so important that we get back to the business of raising our children up right by having each others back and setting good examples in our own homes. Back in the day, if you were a child and in the wrong, and your neighbor or someone who knew you witnessed your behavior, by the time you put your foot on the stairs to enter the house Mama and Daddy were WAITING on you. Not only were you disciplined for misbehaving, you would be DEALT with for acting like you didn't have any "home training." Our communities has gotten soooo far away from the village concept.
Yes, we need to unite, becomes our children's heroes and watch each other's back especially the children!

DR. BOYCE I TRULY AGREE WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID , HOWEVER I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE ONE THIRD OF OUR LIVE'S THAT BEING CONTROL BY OUR BOSS'S .
IT SHOULD BE A UNIVERSAL LAW THAT SENIORITY , AS WITH TIME CAN NOT , AND MUST NOT BE PUT IN THE HANDS OF A MAN , TO CONTROL THE LIVES OF OTHERS .
I AM A UNION MEMBER THAT'S IN THAT SITUATION .
