Weezy recently gave a farewell performance in his hometown of New Orleans, as he prepares to go to prison for what is expected to be one year. This particular charge happens to be related to weapons possession, but he faces several other charges in other states. That is what makes me wonder how the story is going to end for Lil Wayne.
If the drugs don't kill him, the sex or the violence might do the trick. When my mind ventures 20 years into the future, I can see a Vh-1 "Behind the Music" Special about Lil Wayne's life that will feature all of the intrigue of a rock band, with all of the self-destructive elements of modern day hip hop. Wayne embodies all of that, as he represents the lives of the rock star Jim Morrison, Eazy-E and Tupac, all rolled up into one. Besides being amazing talents, these men also happen to have died at an early age.
I don't wish death on Lil Wayne, but it almost seems as if he wishes it upon himself. Eazy-E also ran through women like nobody's business and soon found himself on the wrong side of an HIV test. Every time Weezy's bus is pulled over, it seems that there are drugs on board. I also can't forget the trip through LA where Lil Wayne's caravan was being blocked by angry Crips trying to get him to come out. When you're getting high every day, creating baby's mamas faster than hit records and have gang bangers trying to kill you, you're living a pretty complicated life.
For the sake of his kids, I sincerely hope that Wayne slows his roll. I listen to his music carefully and I don't see the wisdom in his words that is carried by artists like TI, who seem genuinely remorseful for mistakes made in the past. In Wayne I see a boldness that is both admirable and regrettable, presenting the foresight of a man who almost seems to expect that his life will come to an early end. But what I hope is that Wayne understands that a man with children can't live with a death wish. There are too many people depending on him to stay on this earth.
I don't dislike Lil Wayne, but I don't necessarily like him. I certainly don't like the way he's living, or the fact that teenagers are replicating his behavior. For the most part, I simply observe and wonder if I am watching another Tupac/Eazy-E/Jim Morrison combination on his way to a tragic ending. Come on Weezy, get your life right brother. The world and your children need you.

I don't see how you can come to the conclusion that lil wayne will die at a young age just because you he is going to prison, there really is no comaparison. Can I assume that everytime you break the law it's because you believe that you will die soon or are you so perfect that you don't brake any laws? One thing your right about is that you can't understand the youth. You can't understand that he has buses full of people who will always do what they want(legally or not),you can't understand that people will try to hurt you because of where or who you stand for and for that reason a young man must always protect himself. You think that because your black speaking on a young black man you can condem the youth?I hope that you are satisfied with your own life since you pass judgment on other's lives.

I dont truly feel that the writer of this article meant to disrespect the youth of today or Lil Wayne. I can't say how old you are, but i can see that you are naive and need to mature more. Dont worry in a few years you will understand this article better and will probably be embarassed by the fact that your youth made you blind to what Lil Wayne is doing to himself, his family, his children and even you. You will also be embarrased that you misspelled the word break, (brake) and you mispelled other words....listen i bet you can quote a Lil Wayne song verse by verse. Please take that same energy you use in learning his music and responding to intelligent commentary and hit your studies a little harder. (No Disrespect in this comment only love).

What is this person talking about? Follow Lil Wayne before you make comments. If you followed Wayne, and seen his lifestyle, you would agree 100%. So quick to jump on somebody....

@Seriously?: You need to read the article before you go running your mouth. He didn't say Lil Wayne was going to die because he's going to prison. He said Lil Wayne is on a path of self-destruction because of his lifestyle of unprotected casual sex, drugs and weapons violations. Just like alot of other doomed pop idols before him. One of those three things will surely kill him. Now this young fool is going to jail and probably proud of it because he like alot of other dumb hip hoppers think it gives them credibility among other hardcore rappers. That and all the other things he's been doing like crushing and impregnating groupies and female celebs and carrying concealed firearms. I doubt if he actually considers this a set-back other than he'll be away for a whole year. Hopefully by the time he gets out, nobody will think he's such a hot novelty anymore.

Like everyone else in the media who's having a bad time like Tiger woods & the rest of our talented rappers & entertainers, We need to pray for them. It has been upsetting because children look up to these people. My children look up to them & i know other people in my community who look up to them. When my kid's here this, it upsets them, as a parent, i tell my children to pray for them. Also in the media, we don't really know the REAL story. Only Lil Wayne knows what's really going on. Let's try to be positive for this man, put his life in God's hands. Hopefully the outcome will be good.

I agree with the author's comments, but this not only Lil' Wayne's story. It is also the story of many of our youth. Tupac, Eazy-E, and Weezy are direct reflections of someone that we all know personally. We all make mistakes in life and most of us learn from them. Unfortunately, not all of us do. We are all responsible for teaching a better way of life to all who are willing to learn. Someone taught me and in return I will teach others, but we can't let superstars raise our children and be their role models. Is it not obvious that some of our most beloved famous artists need role models themselves.
May the force be with you.

I am a huge Lil Wayne fan. I have been a fan from the beginning. I have watched this young man evolve into the artist he is today. However we can sit here and act like nothings going on but Lil Wayne is literally self-destructing right before our eyes. And yes I'm very concerned. At first I was angry that he got a year in prison because I felt he was just being made an example of; but then I thought Maybe the year sentence will do him some good and be the catalyst for him to turn his life around and cease with the destructive behavior that could possibly be the end of him. Regardless of what he does I will always be a loyal fan and continue to buy his music.

Today, I learned that my 21 yr old nephew has been arrested for burglary. His father has been trying to talk to him. My nephew thinks that a black man can't do nothing but steal and go to jail an attitude born out the rap music culture. My other nephew, a young teen has been suspended from school because he was rapping the "N" word repeated in class instead of listening and paying attention. Now I have a young teen who has been introduced to rap music by his another older cousin. I am in his ear constantly reminding him that this music is about sales, its about entertainment. I am constantly reminding him about the dangers of getting caught of in these lyrics. I don't know Lil Wayne, but I know my children. We have to save our children from this rap culture that is putting lyrics out in some music that is not productive for a child to listen to continously. I have decided to listen to rap music now so I can know just what my child is listening to. I want to help to open his eyes so he can see the bigger picture. I heard 50cent say that what he is doing is entertainmnet. I heard 50cent say during an interview that he does not curse around his children the way he curse in his music. We need to open our childrens' so they can see. All rap music is not bad. The problem is there is so much rap music not worth listening to. It is this music that is stealing the minds of our youth.
