Teka Adams, 29, was homeless, in the third trimester of her pregnancy and staying at a southeast Washington D.C. shelter. When Adams was befriended by 40-year-old Veronica Deramous of Suitland, Maryland, she could not have been happier. Deramous promised the young mother-to-be baby clothes and other items for her unborn child. What Adams didn't know was that the woman had far greater diabolical intentions than she could ever imagine.
Deramous lured Adams to her apartment where she stayed for more than four days. Once Adams was in the apartment, she was given lunch, then suddenly, the tables were turned. Adams was grabbed by the deranged woman, then gagged and bound with duct tape. Deramous, who has a mentally ill 17-year-old son made him assist her in restraining the hostage.
In the wee hours of December 5, two days after being kidnapped, Deramous decided to carry out yet another heinous act on the pregnant woman. According to police records, Deramous told Adams, "You're strong, you can handle what I'm going to do to you." Deramous then proceeded to turn up her bedroom TV, gag the victim yet again, then began to cut Adams' abdomen open in an attempt to remove the unborn child. When Adams began to moan in dire pain, Deramous stopped what she was doing. Miraculously, Adams did not die.
The next morning, Adams somehow freed her hands of the duct tape and escaped the apartment. With her stomach, intestines and placenta exposed, the desperate young woman managed to drag her body to a neighbor's apartment and police were called to the scene.
Adams was transported to a nearby hospital and placed in intensive care for treatment. The young mother had an emergency Cesarean due to the extent of her injuries. Her baby girl was born healthy and given the name Miracle Sky. They are both now out of the hospital.
Deramous was later arrested in Virginia's Arlington County and charged with first and second degree attempted murder, false imprisonment and other charges. The suspect's teen son has not been charged.

Pregnant women have to be careful of overly friendly people or new people especially women who "appear" to be pregnant, coming into their lives out of no where. They need to be careful of people they know who all of a sudden is taking a special interest in them. This is the world we now live in. It's not even safe to put banners and so forth in front of your home announcing a birth. It appears that every 6 months or so, there's a new case. It could happen to anyone!!! I guess the perpetrator figured no one would miss her much less care. I haven't heard of one case where as the nut job wasn't caught, but that isn't a deterrent. My prayers are with the victim and I hope there is an outpouring of support from her community. As far as the nut job, I hope she never see's daylight outside of a prison.
