Kanye West is at it again. The man with the brilliance that makes for good legend also seems to have the ego of a thousand lifetimes. West was recently quoted comparing himself with the great poet Maya Angelou. Here is what Kanye had to say:
"It's funny how so many rappers get worse as their careers stretch out, but true poets get better." West then mentions that he wants to follow in the footsteps of giants like Maya Angelou, Nina Simone and Gill Scott-Heron (whose name West misspells "Herron"). In all capital letters, West then wrote, "Their work improved with time. They documented what was happening in culture." He then goes on to state that "modern day poets and artists" have a responsibility to represent what's happening, so that "when the powers that be try to rewrite history you can always look at our works and find truth."
At the end of the post, West also critiqued the media, encouraging fans to "soak in positive forces and look down upon those who masquerade as truth tellers. ... Look past the headlines and deal with just a bit of reality."
Quick thoughts on Kanye:
1) I loved Kanye West when he said that George Bush doesn't care about black people, but I was annoyed by his attacks on Taylor Swift. Chill out, dude. You're just another great artist, not Jesus Christ.
2) Kanye's ego has served him quite well. Had Kanye quietly sat in the corners at Rocafella records, we never would have heard of him. Instead, he used his own money and created his own opportunity. Now he is one of the top-selling artists of all time. Good for you, Kanye, I respect that.
3) His mother made him great. There is no greater force in the life of a man than his mother. The mother is the first teacher, the first nurturer and the greatest cheerleader. Kanye's mother, Dr. Donda West, taught him to be confident, focused and intelligent. If only other artists would embrace intelligence and throw ignorance to the curb. There is no place in the world for stupidity.
4) Kanye has a chance to become another Muhammad Ali. While I find myself annoyed by Kanye's extreme arrogance, I am hopeful that he can channel this energy in to a Muhammad Ali-like career, one where he transcends his profession and inspires people all over the world. Kanye has the ability (and the ego) to pull this off, but he has absolutely got to stay focused, for even Muhammad Ali made a multitude of mistakes.
Keep pimpin', Kanye, I'm proud of you. But put that ego in check or at least accompany your confidence with a respect for other human beings. That Taylor Swift thing was a bit too much.

My comment is to timetOstop: first of all let me say I am not a fan of Taylor Swift and maybe Beyonce should have won. But the thing is, Kanye NEVER ever should have acted unprofessional and broke in on someone speech even if he thought they didn't deserve it. It would not have mattered if he had been a white singer or rapper, it was unprofessional all the way around.

Kanye has done it again. U will NEVER be any of those great people. U kno why?? Because the people that u compared yourself to don't act up just to get n the headlines. U wonder y nobody likes u rite now. U acking out and u want somebody to feel sorry 4 u,but Im not. Its a shame that someone with so much potential and so much talent wants to act like that. u need to watch what u say and how u say it because one day u gonna say the wrong thing and u r going to regret.

And he didnt lie about the facts going into Iraq.....almost EVERY Senator agreed with him, they had intel that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, not only from our people, but from other countries as well.. at least he truly loved this country....idiots Saddam was a BRUTAL man who killed his own people, I am glad he is dead!

I just saw an interview with Denzel. Along side of the interview was a picture of him and his beautiful wife of 26 years. Why do people insist on focusing on the likes of Kanye when they have Bill Cosby and Denzel Washington out there?

It isn't about race. Kanye & anyone who acts like that is a slap in the face to the people whose music we love to listen to & watch their videos. The bad thing about the awards night, is that all we seem to remember is what Kanye did, not the performances or the people who won, etc. It was he poor judgement. He is an embarrassed the very industry that made him. I know a lot of musicans, and they are saying the same thing. I know that performers have to have some kind of an ego, or they couldn't do what they do. Kanye just needs to back off. And to compare himself to Maya Angelou is unthinkable--he could never be on her level. She is what every person should strive to be, not a famous, but a person who is likeable & people like to be with.

If it was a white person making the same comments that Kanye does it would still be rude as hell. It has nothing to do with his race, he makes it that way. He thinks he can say anything that passes through his small mind BECAUSE he is black. He made himself a race issue not the rest of America.

Kanye does not deserve any attention. Boycott him and any company that sponsors or hires him to play music and be on their program.
