It keeps getting deeper by the second. I was on CNN the other day to discuss the recent incident during which Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid stated that President Barack Obama might have a chance to become president because he is "light-skinned" and doesn't speak with a "negro dialect" (the video here is here if you want to watch). But the real bombshell came today when I read about the statements allegedly made by former President Bill Clinton:
According to reports in a new book to be released this week, Bill Clinton told Ted Kennedy that, "A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee," referring to then candidate Barack Obama. Clinton also griped that Kennedy was only supporting Obama for president, because he is black.
To say that the black community should be offended by Bill Clinton's words would be an understatement. If the allegations in this book (called "Game Change") are true, this is going to destroy the already wounded relationship between the Clinton family and the African-American community. But as I mentioned on CNN early in the campaign (back when no one thought Barack Obama could even challenge Clinton for the presidency), African Americans have been awakened by the idea that we no longer have to have a "sugar substitute," and can instead taste the very real sweetness that comes with having meaningful access to the White House. Although I have critiqued Obama on multiple occasions, I am quite proud of his accomplishment.
For many years, Bill Clinton proudly accepted the false label of "first black president," which offended real black men in America who wondered if someone who looks like us could ever be considered capable enough to have that kind of power. Many in the black community also felt patronized and disrespected by the Clintons, who almost seemed to feel that they were doing us a favor by even caring the least bit about African-American issues. Hillary's "Gone with the Wind" attitude began to show itself as she unraveled during the Democratic primary, using nasty racial references to undermine Obama's bid to the presidency. Bill put icing on the cake by publicly comparing Obama's campaign to that of Jesse Jackson in 1984.
Well, a new day has come. Black people are no longer interested in second-class citizenship. We are Americans too and expect the respect that comes with that status. Now Bill, please go get me a cup of coffee - I take my coffee black.

Doesn't anyone else get tired of racists who try to find ways to display their racism without being 'caught'. Yo, the difference between what you have posted a link to and what is on this website is that the author of your content wrote what was written BECAUSE they were racist; here it is written to counteract the racism that is in the page you have posted a link to, the racism seen all over, every friggin day. That's why it looks like an insult when you present it and it looks like analysis when you read it here, it's clearly INTENDED that way. Do you really think that because you go and dig up something from someone who doesn't believe they have hidden their true thoughts that no one can tell when someone else is feeling the exact same way. It's like talking to a loser boyfriend. There are other ways of catching you aside from you telling on yourself! Just because you didn't have the decency to be honest doesn't mean there is no way of finding out.

Bill,
Whatever your intent in trying to enlighten Black Folk, again is unneccesary, unwanted and not understood.
To enlighten you to a salient fact. Your written comments come off as being paternalistic, patronizing and arrogant. Basically racist.
Why you may ask?
As a part of the majority who's sole purpose was to dehumanize, demean and destroy a person's sole, then now to want to inform how we can be a better and more productive lot, is beyond arrogant. It's quite ignorant (lack of knowledge, remember?).
Flip the script, and say peoples of African descent were the majority, and we treated whites in the manners Africans were treated for centuries. Do you believe that you would believe or trust the puppetmaster? And don't say yes to appease the writer. I'm sure you wouldn't, and neither do we.
Of course things were better for African Americans, it was better for all of Americans before the 1960's. The permissive drug use was one issue. Another was the purposeful disentigration of the family structure in the African American community, by instituting assistant welfare policy which rewarded a non-functional family structure, where an African American lady could do better for her family, if she told the welfare distributors that she didn't know where the father of her children were, at a time in the society where generally speaking, a Black man couldn't get a job in corporate America, let alone almost anywhere else. So the Black man was basically run away from home, the family was inherently dysfunctional, and the Black man in many cases became despondent, and turned to drugs / alcohol to alleviate the pain and discord not being able to provide for his family.
And as we all know, you cut off the head, you kill the body. Thus the institutional welfare system employed was almost to a "T" the same systematic process used during bondage. Utilize the man to breed children, and then separate the family, and thus never give the sucker an opportunity to develop a family structure, which would make him and his a stronger more formidable foe.
Thank God for Black Females.....

Your ignorance is monumental. You feel you have to blog on Black Voices, why? Do you relish conflict? I really don't. I read your posting, and I think you believe your job is to enlighten Black people with innuendo. We are not all on welfare. We built this country for free. Reparations or not, every ethnic group wronged by this country has gotten something but us. As James Brown said, "I don't want nobody to give me nothing. Just open up the door and I'll get it myself!" It has just been in the past 40 years or so that the doors have cracked a little. Now we have a Black president who is trying to repair this country and the bad reputation Clinton and Bush have shown the world. He gets respect all over the world, and death threats in this country. It's people like you who despise progress, and would prefer we serve coffee and birth your babies!

Bill Clinton is just the latest in a long line (and still growing) of white people who've had their most innermost thoughts exposed. He can't help himself.
Bill Schrier, is that a real identity or just a pseudonym of Bovine fecal matter? Why do right-wingers come to this site to spout their party lines? Do you actually think you could convince anyone on this site of the validity of your comments? I mean, in all good sense, I would not go to a KKK rally and spout a kumbaya line of love.

"Bovine fecal matter"? And I'm the one who is called a hater and a race baiter? You blacks on this board are very INTOLERANT of opposing viewpoints. Too bad, if you would just open your minds, you might gain from other viewpoints.

Hey Bill, we're wise enough to be able to differentiate between a real viewpoint and pure garbage. Are you?

Why is every one so upset about what Senator Reid said?. We have had racist comment from white people for over 200 years. And it will continue as long as the world stand. The Republicans should go somewhere and stick their heads in the sand. It hurt them so bad that we have aAFRICAN AMERICAN PRESIDENT they cannot support any thing he purposes.I do not think Senator Reid ment to be meanspirited by his remarks.Everyone get over it and get down to business for the American people. Nothing can be gained by continueing to talk about this statement. I'm praying for Senator Reid and the Republicans that are calling for him to resign needs to resign themselves. And poor Mr. Steele get under the bus and stay ther until your eyes are open. YOU DUMMY. I use to listen to Dr. Boykin’s and Michael Eric Dyson but on these two are appearing to becoming ambulance chasers.
Both focused all of their energy on what Harry Reid said, without examining the full context of the statement he made. But was silent on Bill Clinton who made the most insidious comment.
It infuriates me to see how the media dictate what these Negroes choose to discuss. The first one on CNN was Dr. Boykin’s [aka ambulance chaser #1] the second one was Michael Eric Dyson [ambulance chaser #2] this morning sounding like a fool.
Soledad Obrien was trying to explain the context of the statement and this fool is talking about a teachable moment about race and what he did for Obama. Stupid fool all of us worked for Obama.
But during the entire discussion neither one of the ambulance chasers injected the statements from Bill Clinton angry with Ted Kennedy because he would not endorse Hillary and said, "Years ago guys like that would be serving us coffee." Now Ambulance Chasers, why were you silent? Now because it is getting some traction, now ambulance chaser #1 wants to report it.
Before you get your dumb a@@ in front of a camera, have all of the facts...he was trying to give Obama a compliment [stupid] and used as Obama said in artful language.
The Democratic leaders were trying to keep Hillary out of the race because she was too polarizing and she could not control Bill and encourage Obama to run. All this much ado about nothing. No his comments was not politically correct but haven't each of you made stupid comments before? Too many to count.
This is the time to address critical issues like healthcare, unemployment, financial regulations, not the time to discuss race.
