Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele and his GOP buddies are grasping for straws in trying to make a big deal out of some silly comments dealing with race made by U.S. Senate Leader Harry Reid about President Barack Obama.
To Steele's simpleminded logic, the situation is as clear as black and white: When Republicans like former Mississippi Senator Trent Lott make a racial comment, as he did in 2002 when he publicly praised segregationist lawmaker Strom Thurmond, they are forced to apologize.
But when a Democrat like Reid makes a racial comment, as he admits to in a newly published book describing Obama as "a light skinned African American with no Negro dialect unless he wanted to have one" he gets a free pass.
Steele is simply playing politics and should know better. Yes, Reid's comments were racial, but they weren't racist, and there is a big difference.
Lott's comments were in praise of a segregationist senator who openly championed discriminatory policies for much of his public service career.
Reid's comments were in praise of Obama's quest to become the first black president of the United States. Yes, they were racial and the use of the word "Negro" by Reid is a bit unsettling, but the Nevada Democrat has been a chief supporter of Obama since the 2008 campaign began.
Like comparing apples and oranges, in my view.
Reid apologized to Obama and black political leaders as soon as his comments came to light. Lott, on the other hand, took days to offer a half-hearted explanation for his comments. Just to be on the safe side, it would probably be best for all involved if Reid were to stay far away from racial comments about the president for now on.
But for Steele to talk of a double-standard is a ham-handed and clumsy attempt to make political hay out of some dumb comments. These days you have to look beyond the racial comment to see who the real enemy is.

Reid is from the "old school" and he is just stating how "white america" thinks. Is he wrong for speaking the truth? No. What

Paul Shepard and his left-wing journalist buddies are grasping for straws in trying to apologize for some "silly" comments dealing with race made by U.S. Senate Leader Harry Reid about President Barack Obama.
To Shepard's simpleminded logic, the situation is as different as black and white: When Republicans like former Mississippi Senator Trent Lott make a comment, as he did in 2002 when he publicly praised lawmaker Strom Thurmond, they are forced to apologize.
But when a Democrat like Reid makes a racial comment, as he admits to in a newly published book describing Obama as "a light skinned African American with no Negro dialect unless he wanted to have one" he gets a free pass.
Shepard is simply playing politics and should know better. Reid's comments were racial, and they are racist, (by modern over-sensitive standards) and in that sense, there is a no difference.
Lott's comments were in praise of a senator who supported some discriminatory policies in the early part of his public service career. Although nothing like Democratic Sen. Byrd et. al.
Reid's comments were in praise of Obama's quest to become the first black president of the United States. Which, as we know, is a stupid and racist reason to become President. Yes, the comments were racist and the use of the word "Negro" by Reid is unsettling., but the Nevada Democrat has been a supporter of Obama as soon as he became politically viable and it was safe for him to do so.
Like comparing an apples to oranges, in my view. Reid's are far worse, but he will get a pass, as a defender of policies that promote modern slavery.
Reid apologized to Obama and black political leaders as soon as he was forced to by the book being published. Lott, on the other hand, did so when the uproar ensued from a twisted interpretation of the real facts. Which were being ignored by said left-wing--mainstream media. Just to be on the safe side, and protect Democrats--the ultimate enslavers of
Blacks, it would probably be best for all involved if Reid were to stay far away from racial comments about the president for now on.
For Shepard to talk of a double-standard is a ham-handed and clumsy attempt to apologize for the modern slave-owners of America, also known as the Democratic Party.
These days you have to look beyond the racial comment to see who the real enemy is.

Why any brother would bother with Steele is beyond me. He's a nobody even to the right! You know that you are a house negro when the majority of your party is ashamed of you and you still wont resign.
Go home boy!

Check this out, 'Children'. Today in Ameerica, America spent billions of American Dollars on many things. How much of that did the Black Community get? Thats the question. I could care less what the hell Sen. Reid or anyone else said, up on Capital Hill. I want to know about THE MONEY, HONEY'. 'I am so shame of these so-called leaders until I don't know what the hell to do. Everyone is getting Money for their people, and these 'CLOWNS',are running around worrying about STATEMENTS made. Whats up with all of this Black Pride stuff. The game is money. Back in 1968 we did'nt want to be called 'NEGRO'S but BLACK, so they called us Black. Now we've changed our name again. I like to go back in one of those dark rooms and watch and see how White's are laughing at us. Every 35 or 40 years we change our name. We went from 'BOON' to 'COON' AND SO FORTH. Don't we know who the hell we are by now? What's wrong with us. I don't like to be made to look stupid. Wake up, gwet your mind on 'BUSINESS'.( MONEY)

@Paul Shepherd - those comments of Reid's weren't silly. He was discussing what he knows about white people; that is, these whites have erroneous, detrimental pre-conceived notions about black people. Not every black person is a mullato. I'm not and I'm dark skin. It explains the difficultly dark skin males (& females) have attaining employment and getting justice in our society.
It's just another structural part of our 400 yo anti-black white supremist capitalist system (white beliefs/customs) that has always targetted blacks for financial gain (economic exploitation) while at the same time blocks them from accessing capital. Never happened to any other group. Those laws specifically mentioned blacks only.
It's no surprise you'd call them silly cause you've been TAUGHT thru the media component of our system to hate black people (and you may be black). Sure the repubs are going use this for political gain but the dems haven't done anything for blacks but take them for granted. As a black man as couldn't care less about the dems or repubs, I care about black people being repaired from our system that's always attacked them (and me).
So they're serious comments, not because he used the term negro, but because he exposed the anti-black bias that whites hold.

I'm confused Michael Steele wants Ried to step down. Yet it was Uncle Tom I mean Michael Steele who tried to bring hip-hop to the Repub Party and went so far as to make a fool of himself by speaking in ebonics aka hip hop.

The difference between what Lott said and what was said by Reid was this...
Lott was supporting seperatisim. Reid was speaking the truth. Reid wasn't being a racist. Lott pubicly admitted to supporting illegal tatics that was designed to harm Blacks. Michael Steele is an idiot for either not realizing this, or a jackass for race baiting which makes him just as much as a bigot as Lott if not more so.
While I don't like what said, it was true. Let's keep it real...we all speak one way when we are home and another when we are at the office.
As for the light-skin remark....Ok don't flip out but uh Michael Jackson bleached his skin because he had issues with being dark.
I personally love myself some Black Folk. I don't care the shape size or shade

MsLisyJoy---lol---I could not agree with you more. At least some of us are proud of our color, heritage and culture. Kudos to you, my sister! You made my day because I was really going to be significantly more terse than you! LOL!
