Radio show host Rush Limbaugh is at it again. The other day, in response to the recent flap over Harry Reid's comments on President Barack Obama, Limbaugh had this to say:
"I know the real reason that Teddy Kennedy was mad and offended when Bill Clinton said, 'Hey, come on, man, this guy woulda been fetching us coffee a few years ago.' What made Teddy Kennedy mad was it's[sic] women get him coffee. It was Negroes that brought Ted Kennedy his booze. And that's why he was all offended... We deal in the truth here...."
It appears that Rush Limbaugh is doing a good job, earning his mega salary by spitting out silly and inflammatory statements that are deliberately designed to rile people up. Rush Limbaugh is not dumb enough to really believe all the crazy things he says. He just wants you to believe that he believes these things. Then, you get angry, respond to him, listen to his show and his corporate sponsors sell you products. That's the game.
But let's get to the funny nitty-gritty of all this and explain to you why Rush Limbaugh doesn't deserve your credibility or respect. Limbaugh, a high school graduate and recovering drug addict, once had this to say on his show in 1995:
"And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up."
There's really nothing else to say. Rush Limbaugh is not to be taken seriously, and the idea that we are letting an entertainer and recovering drug addict play any role in the face of American politics says a great deal about the state of American government. Let's leave Rush Limbaugh alone.

You are all just jealous "little insignificant people" who cannot pronounce (or spell)ask (axe)and still cannot get over the fact your own people gathered your ancestors up and sold them to others. You lash out at others but never take responsibility for your own actions. That is why our prisons (and cemetaries) are full of young black males and the maternity wards are full of 14 year old adolescents. You people could not survive without the Democrats and welfare. I am a registered Democrat, and totally ashamed of this current administration.

I must say that the injestion of all those drugs by Rush has made him even more crazy. He needs to stop hating blacks, and hate the people who are really responsible for has inferiority complex...his mother and father. Self hate transferred to Afro-Americans by this pathetic man has only one solution, and that is suicide on his part.

I am white. I am not a Rush Limbaugh fan. I do feel he is misrepresented by the media, however. His outrageous statements are his schtick. He is being deliberately controversial. This statement by him was not racist, but an attempt to show how racist guys like Clinton and Kennedy are. Senator Kennedy sent his children to private school about the same time that Massachusetts had to be FORCED to let black children into their schools. And yet, Mass is supposed to be this "liberal", "progressive" state. Rush is merely pointing out hypocrisy.
I was watching ESPN when he made his famous Donovan McNabb statements. I was appalled at the backlash towards Limbaugh. First of all, he asked a question, "Is McNabb really that good, or are we rooting for him because he is black?" (that may not be an exact quote, but it's basically what he said) I remember when Doug Williams became the first black QB to win a Super Bowl. America was rooting for him PRECISELY because he is black. Blacks had been shunned from playing QB for a long time, and now Williams could answer, affirmatively, that those myths about blacks being incapable of leading a team, not being smart enough, et al,were idiotic. It's rooting for the underdog. Haven't the blacks been the underdogs of America for most of it's history? First slavery, then Jim Crow laws, the right to vote, the color barrier in baseball, etc etc. African Americans have perservered and broken through so many walls, the QB (arguably the most recognizeable and popular figure in any sport) was one more thing to overcome. A black QB has never been considered the greatest QB, not like Favre or Manning or Brady or Montana or Unitas. You don't think people root for Donovan because he's black? If not, then I bet you don't think people dislike Donovan because he is black. Oh, you do believe the latter... me too. To answer Rush's question, yes I do think people were rooting for McNabb to succeed because he is black. Do I think the question was racist? Sure it was, and intentionally so. Racism isn't always a bad thing. Racism to keep someone down is bad. Racism to lift people up, is not. If we couch all of the things we say, in fear of people thinking we are racist, don't we make the conversation one sided, and hide the truth that we see through our own eyes?
A politician reading to underprivileged kids doesn't make him a saint, and a blowhard on radio making controversial statements does not make him a bigot.
George Bush had the first sect'y of state who was an African American. He also had the first black woman as sect'y of state, as well as the first Latino attorney general. Ronald Reagan appointed a man of color to the supreme court. Yet Republicans are viewed as racists and Democrats as the friend of the African American community. I think Limbaugh finds this incongruous, and points it out in many ways.
God bless you.
