Workers Have Difficulty Distributing Global Aid
With $400 million in aid promised from Europe, Asia, the Americas, the U.N. and private agencies, it would seem that the help Haiti needs after the cataclysmic earthquake they had on Tuesday would be off to a good start. Instead, due to damages at the seaport and an airport that ran out of space, much of the aid--tons of water, rice and high-fuel biscuits--is yet to be dispersed. Aid workers are calling for security as Haitians are becoming increasingly impatient and desperate to receive help. So far it is estimated that between 45,000 to 50,000 people lost their lives in the earthquake, and while more than 5,000 U.S. soldiers are said to be arriving on the island on Monday, there is a general consensus that efforts need to be quickened in order to stem the propensity for complete chaos in these types of disasters. 'Pants on the Ground' Blows Up the Internet
Civil rights activist Larry Platt, 63, became an Internet sensation with clicks and Tweets after his audition aired for 'American Idol' on Wednesday night. Performing, 'Pants on the Ground,' Platt says his contribution is a commentary to youth to stop sagging their pants. Platt, a former civil rights member of organizations such as the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, expressed that his generation worked too hard to have young people wear sagging pants today.
