
Another Earthquake Shakes Haiti This Morning
As if things weren't bad enough for the people of Haiti. At 6:03 a.m., another earthquake struck the nation 35 miles outside of Port-au-Prince. It is reported that the 6.1 magnitude quake had people wailing and running from unstable buildings in to the streets. [AP]
Scott Brown Wins Mass. Election
In an ominous loss, Attorney General Martha Coakley lost to Republican candidate Scott Brown in the Massachusetts election. The loss is problematic for the Democrats, as they need a 60-person majority to pass important legislation, such as health care reform. It is reported that Brown, like his Republican peers, will not support health care reform, so the health care bill is now hanging in the balance, and Democrats are scrambling to ascertain how to salvage the bill. How the Public Rates Obama a Year In
Exactly a year after he took office, the majority of Democrats and Republicans say they "like" President Barack Obama, however, both groups are decidedly unhappy with the direction of the country, according to an AP poll. There were some positives, though: The poll also revealed that the public does believe that Obama is capable of handling his chiefly duties. Examples such as the Haiti earthquake and the Detroit terrorism case have proved to many that Obama can handle crises. The perception that Obama is taking on too much responsibility has also changed, and the public now thinks he has a sufficient pace to handle hot-button issues. [Washington Post]
