In November, First Lady Michelle Obama launched an all-girls mentoring program at the White House. Now Mrs. Obama has released a lovely video to Aol. Black Voices about her "top priority," saying, "Mentoring has always been a big part of my success as well as Barack's...we really want to promote and emphasize the importance of mentoring young people of all stages. We thought, What better way to do it but from the platform of the White House."
Mrs. Obama has 18 female White House staffers, including Valerie Jarrett and Melody Barnes, and celebrities, such as Tracee Ellis Ross, Alfre Woodard and Susan Sarandon, mentoring 13 high school girls. The video shows the First Lady on her way to Denver, Colo., to kick off a series of mentoring events across the country.
Check it out!
And for those of you who are wondering, What about the boys? On Wednesday, President Barack Obama launched a year-long mentoring program specifically for young men in honor of National Mentoring Month. Nice!

Great thing to start a mentoring program in the white house. Thanks to the first lady and President Obama for starting such a thing. I would like to see this program; bring about reduction time for crimes for youth. Consideration laws written as a result of this program being a success. I would like to see young kids dressing up and being presentable who can't. I really want this effort to be a success and continue in a better way than all other mentoring program have been in the pass. Be extended to millions of kids all over the US. We need loving efforts; so it does not matter what he letters stand for............

I am very impressed to see that a Mentoring program has been developed and implemented in the White House. I have been trying to begin a mentoring program for teen girls for about two years. There has been and continues to be road blocks that have prevented me from moving forward. I welcome the opportunity to sit with someone who has the experience with this type of service and briefly interview them to get more information abou their program. I love Michelle Obama. My first time hearing her speak brought tears to my eyes. Her words were genuine, strong, and sincere. I am a resident of Cleveland Ohio. I live in a community where my services would only be a benefit to our community.
