Well, I'm here to confess my Internal Blackness Violations (IBVs). I'm finally going to get it all off my chest. These are things I often think, but dare not say. Until now.
And while many of my most secret thoughts may undermine my legitimacy as a black woman, I must let them out before I explode. I warn you. It's not pretty.
1. I think Michelle Obama is kinda funny looking.
2. I could care less about that hoopla over Reggie Bush being on the cover of Essence and even less about who he dates.
3. I think the WNBA is full of ugly lesbians (not that anything's wrong with that).
4. I think Michael Steele is embarrassingly inarticulate.
5. I think many of Tom Joyner's "Little-Known Black History Facts" are, in fact, not true.
6. Women sportscasters, police officers and soldiers make me uncomfortable. Pam Oliver not withstanding, I just haven't gotten comfortable with women in those positions yet. I want a man to show up to my 911 call. Sorry Gloria Steinem.
7. I think Kwanzaa is stupid. (And too damn complicated)
8. Sometimes I say in my head, 'I'm glad my hair isn't as nappy as hers.'
9. I think David Brooks is right more than he is wrong.
10. I think Tyra was getting too big.
11. (As a single black woman) I'm sick of hearing black women complain about being single. Read a book.
12. I think Michael Baisden is silly, loud and annoying, and that most of the people that call his show are morons.
13. The bitter black women wing of the blogosphere is so tired. They all just need to get laid. Outrage-obsessed black women are sooooo 20th century.
14. I've never liked Teena Marie's voice. I think she sounds terrible.
15. Whenever they start to play reggae music at a party, I go sit down.
16. I secretly think all Nigerians are gonna rip me off. Sorry.
17. I haven't bought a Mary J. Blige album since "What's the 411."
Whew! The first step is admitting the problem and being honest with yourself. Okay, now I can sleep tonight.
Do you have any IBVs?
Peace, people.

You say: I think a lot of blogs are idiotic...
So why are you here? Everyone has a right to think what they want, right?

Forgive me, my people:
1.) I hate all the Tyler Perry movies- the characters and plot never seem fully developed. Seems like he could be great, but he dumbs down his art to appeal to a wider audience (read: $$$). Give me one great Spike Lee kind of piece, Tyler. PLEASE.
2.) I think Pres. Obama needs to get fired up NOW and secure his base. I don't want a repeat of the Mass. Ted Kennedy Senate seat debacle in the future.
3.) I can't listen to Mary J. Blige for too long- her remakes of Chaka Khan and Aretha Franklin make me wanna cover my ears.
4.) I'm sick of the single black women whining too- Essence sent out an email saying, How to Get Your Man to Propose. What?! If he won't propose on his own, why would you want to cajole/force him into it?! If you're single, enjoy it! Read, travel, start a business. Why sell yourself short waiting on a man and a ring?
5.) I hate it when black women with natural hair think their blackness is more expressed than mine cause my hair is relaxed. It's just hair.
6.) Usher and Chris Brown get on my nerves- such whiny little b******. Yeah you divorced her, but you're the victim cause you went against everyone defending her- very manly. Yeah Chris, you beat her to the white meat and Oprah talked bad about you- poor you. Where are all the real men?

I'm natural because I hate relaxers, not because I want to wear my hair in its natural texture (although having the option is cool). And definitely not because I think it makes me more black. That's silly. The 'Natural Nazis' get on my nerves too, trying to tell me that I should go back to relaxing because I choose to flat iron. Its like they think they own you once you give up the relaxer! It is "just hair"!!

I think you watch waaay too much tv and should seek out one of his plays. If the entertainment at your fingers doesn't satisfy you go out and get a hobby that does.

I so agree with the Usher statement.....He sucks and is an example of what black women have to deal with from their/our men. Make a family to leave????
And I so hate sisters with natural hairstyles thinking that because they are natural they are more in tune to Blackness......whateva! Do you and let me do me!

@ jay. You sound like one of those bitter bloggers she mentions. Stop taking yourself and everyone else so seriously.

Beezeeles, I'm feeling your comments, especially on #'s 3 and 4. I wonder how MJB has made it this long, and why single women can't simply enjoy being single. I wish I learned that lesson during my single days.
Listed below are my IBV's:
1. Though Mo'Nique did a bang-up job in Precious, her loudness gets on my nerves most of the time.
2. R & B songs with no longevity or substance. I already miss Teddy P.
3. Gospel singers who act holier than thou. We ALL have issues that if the world knew about, we'd run and hide under two rocks and a cave! ALL of us fall short of God's glory and still showered with His grace.
4. Those who applaud people who went to prison rather than celebrate those who went to college.
5. People who feel like it's their appointed duty to represent us. We come in all shapes, sizes and backgrounds...I don't want anyone repping who I am.
