Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia M. Schnegg praised singer Chris Brown for staying on track with his probation. Brown hasn't missed a session of domestic violence counseling and has completed 32 days of community service in his home state of Virginia. He was serving the probation as the result of his attack last year on the singer, Rihanna, who was his girlfriend at the time.
"It looks like you're doing really, really well," Schnegg said. "That's always good to see."
Brown was sentenced last year to five years probation and six months of community service, after pleading guilty to felony assault. The attack took place a few hours before the 2009 Grammy Awards. The judge also ruled that Brown can travel out of the country to do concert dates in May and June.
The Chris Brown saga was painful to watch, as he was another Tiger Woods: A mainstream black man with a squeaky clean image, made into public enemy No. 1 by both himself and the media. What I find interesting, however, is that there are men of other races who make equally heinous mistakes, but the media doesn't make a sport out of laying the men out to dry in front of the American public.
Either way, Chris' mistakes shed a great deal of light on the issue of domestic violence in the African-American community. I found myself disturbed that my daughters still loved Chris after this incident. Rihanna made things even worse by leveraging her pain into publicity, which almost seemed to backfire.
What is good for Brown is that he went through the domestic violence counseling, which many Americans should experience even when they haven't done anything wrong. This counseling teaches people how to manage their anger and find productive ways to resolve disputes in their relationships. There are quite a few subtleties about domestic violence that all of us should study, not to just avoid physical conflicts, but to also know how and when to get out of bad situations. Chris was likely taught that, in many cases, you don't have to touch someone to abuse them and that an abusive relationship is not the only way to find yourself miserable. These were valuable lessons for him to learn at such an early age, and the great hope is that his future relationships will not lead him to jeopardize all that he's worked so hard to obtain.
At the end of the day, my point remains the same: Chris Brown is not a monster. He's a 20-year-old kid with room to grow and evolve from his mistakes. In this conversation on CNN, I wanted to speak honestly on Chris Brown's problems while simultaneously reminding the public not to make him into the next Michael Vick. When it comes to African-American men, America loves to make value judgments. I wasn't interested in hearing all that.

Blacks are harshly punished and judged....the media and their reporters LOVE to bring a Good person down....They love to find or make Dirt on Black folks.......It's like what Jamie Fox said....from Hero to Zero......sometines when other races do something....their pictures are not even shown...but when a Black person even "spit" on the ground...they BLOW the Picture up....they blow the story up and they make a circus out of it....everybody jump on the band wagon...to get ratings.....sometimes even making the person darker........its crazy......
People get ratings to see the circus..........I also think Rhiannna need some counseling too....I think she has issues too! not just punish Christ.....I think she should get some counseling.....

I did not ever think Chris Brown was a monster. We all make mistakes in life...and many of those mistakes stem from our experiences in childhood. Nevertheless, he is still young and has much room to grow. I know with the right mentoring and support, he will prevail over his negative actions.

Hey - I am with you Shellfish -
Chris should not have hit her (Rhianna) but she used the incident for gain. She is over exposed and quite frankly for some of the pictures that I have seen of her lately with the gentleman fondling her is just disgusting! I wish Chris the best and Rhianna also - just play fair!!!!!!!

I always felt that Rihanna should have been made to attend counseling also. Too me, she was just as much fault as Chris Brown. But because she the media displayed her as the innocent woman who was beaten and bruised, Chris Brown got the heat. Then she sat back and waited until it was time for her new release to come out and then decided to use the incident with Chris Brown to her advantage for material gain. Yes, Chris should never put his hands on a woman in violence but Rihanna has issues that she needs to deal with as well. She has went from several relationships with men since Chris Brown. Her character is not a idol for our young kids. She exposes herself in nudity and in most of her videos she exposes herself by putting her hands on her crouch which I finds is very offending, since she is a young lady.

Some people develope the bizarre luxury of riding on African Americans backs, regardless of male or female. They make our black athletes out of public enemy number one! They don't treat their own that way when they are scandalous!

I dont think that the issues with chris brown was racial at all. take a look at the 'white' scandals such as lindsey lohan, mel gibson, jesse james. The real bottom line I think is 'the higher the star....the farther the fall'.
That being said....Chris Brown is an incredibly talented man! I adore his music....especially 'Forever'. I also see a broken man that I would love to see get back up and move on. I think maybe if he would stop trying so hard to 'fix this' he would do better. Let everyone see his heart...no put on s....just a boy turning into a man....genuinely!!! He can push his star back up! :)
