Haitian Orphans, Guardians Detained for Suspected Child Trafficking
While their new parents waited for them in Miami, six orphans, ages 1 to 5, and their orphanage guardians were detained by Haitian police, even though it is reported that all of the required paperwork was provided. Haitian authorities, though, are said to be reacting to the increase of Haitian children being smuggled out of the country for human trafficking and the like. The United States will be meeting with Haitian officials to clear up the matter. [USA Today]
Obama Biography Forthcoming
David Remnick, New Yorker editor and Pulitzer Prize-winning author, has penned a biography on President Barack Obama and his rise to prominence, which will be released in April. Darfur War May End with Truce
Due to auspicious relations between Chad and Sudan, an upcoming election and a truce agreement between one of Sudan's most powerful rebel groups and the Sudanese government, Sudan may finally be ending its war in Darfur, after seven long years and 300,000 deaths. [Washington Post]
