Robert Pattinson, the heartthrob from the 'Twilight' series, has upset a few people. I admit that I am probably the only person on earth who has not seen his movie, but there might be a few others who join me after hearing his recent comments about black people.
During an interview with Details magazine, Pattinson sat down with Jenny Lumet, a black journalist, and made some comments that just didn't make any sense. The dialogue between Pattison and Lumet went as follows:
Details: Rob, did you know that every time you say actor or acting you lower your voice to a whisper?
Rob: (He's genuinely startled.) "I do?"
Details: Yes, so quietly it's like you're saying Negro.
Rob: (He laughs, lightens up.) "What if we were acting' like 'Negroes'? Then we'd be f*cked -- we couldn't hear anything. . . ."
Okay, can someone please explain to me what in the &^%$ he was talking about? Either way, I think he could have been equally confusing while using a term other than the word Negro. His handlers may want to coach him on the fact that you can't put a billion-dollar brand on your shoulders and then make careless remarks that people can interpret any way they want. Pattinson needs a lesson on public etiquette, and he needs to apologize immediately.
Similarly, Pattinson's remarks don't necessarily imply that he is a racist. At the very least, the comments do argue that he needs to be taught racial sensitivity. Many young people make silly mistakes like this one, because the adults around them have never taught them how to maintain respect for diversity. Similar to the recent racist incident at the University of California San Diego, the 'Twilight' star may have made his mistake because he's never been taught any better. Either way, Mr. Pattinson needs to be sat down and educated.

Amen,Dave. I could care less about this dude or his movie. The movie my wife bought and that's still sitting in the DVD case. I have bigger problems and nowadays it's not impossible, but very difficult to shock me.

I agree.
Who cares what this dude has to say?
He is not relevant to me in any way and I didn't watch his ridiculous movie either.

Dave,
Pattinson's comments are harmful, because comments like those feed the monster that engulfs me at work everyday. Maybe you are not a black person. Or maybe you are a black person trying to ignore it. If you are the latter, like so many others who have commented, then there will come a day when you will not be able to ignore the sting of racism. It cannot be ignored when it affects your job, even if you are an excellent worker. Take 20 of those comments and let them evolve into an attitude of arrogance and superiority. Let the weight of it all commit to pushing you out of a job simply because of its power, and then make that statement again.
You passiveness about his comments make you a supporter and a catalyst to the pain that affects me and others everyday.
Thanks Dave.

I can't even be offended because I ams till confused by what exactly that means. Furthermore, the person givign the interview had a duty to say something besides negro. They could've said you're voice gets so low it's like you're saying a swear word- or anything! I dont this is racist I think maybe the interviewer tried to bait him and I think he is retarded and tactless LOL!
ps- I have not seen or read anything twilight so that makes two ppl in America right now :)

Make that 3!! I have no interest in "Twilight" or any of it's stars. I will say this, however: Just like John Mayer, this is what comes of making celebrities out of half-talented,badly educated young idiots because of the way they look or the way young white women respond to them.
