Wow the old school way of doing things is over. Slick Al Sharpton is a dinosaur and a media hype. This guy has enjoyed the spotlight and seems to have masterd the art of milking his 15 mins of fame. Remember he came from the entertainment industry as James Browns flunky. You cant tell me his ambition isn't what motivates him. I feel his longing to be in front of the camera is his major focuss. His canvacing the american landscape to find the most outrageous crimes against black people, and his advocacy for the victims of those crimes, reminds me of the ambulance chsing lawyer. If he is truly a community organizer, than work in your immediate community and let the black leaders of the victims that have had their civil rights violated work within their communities resolve their own issues. We all aren't dumb out here that we can't get together where we live to fight back against the forces that want to harm us. As for Tavis, yes there is some ego there, but the major difference i think isn't being addressed, is the fact that he is a real journalist and what he is proposing to do in Chicago is right. Having an effective conversation from many areas in the black community is needed now as opposed to later. Being proactive is much more effective than being reactive. Tavis is being proactive and Al has always been reactive. Do you readers of this blog think Al became the millionaire he is by giving back or taking away from the balck community. This guy couldn't carry Dr. Kings hat more or less his message. Black people need to wakeup to the manipulation by our own so called media appointed leaders. Civil rights isn't a reality show for our entertainment. Its real issues that affect everyday common folk, whoes only crime is that they were born a different color of the power elite. This nonsense that we all are americans, and the bs that Obama spewed during his campaign is crap. So if we follow this logic, than lets put it into context. If Obama was president during the Vietnam era would black people be on board in supporting that war, would we accept the discrimination that occured to people of color during that period because we had a black president and we did'nt want it to seem that he was showing favoritism. Of course not. Than why are we so reluctant to hold him accountable in this era. Speeches are a way of keeping you distracted from what is really being done. You don't think clinton was distracted during his term in office, you don't think he had death threats. All presidents have death threats and a few were assasinated, its part of the job, like being a cop or a person in the military. You know what you're getting into from the beginning. Enough with the excuses for this guy. The catoonist should have Obama's image there in the middle with a huge ego sign for him, becase he has the largest ego i've ever seen in one person.

Why have so many Blacks have so much negative to say about each other while other groups laugh.
We need more egos and of course the PRESIDENT has one, have you compared the number of threats made on this man,s life to others ? What do you tell the young people?

The President is a smart, educated man who has earned his way. Perhaps if some of you whinners would follow his example, instead of sitting around on your behinds waiting for a welfare check, you too can become smart and intelligent.

I’m confused as to the beef between Tavis Smiley and Rev. Al Sharpton over a ‘black agenda’ by our current president. When has any American president (and American society) NOT had a ‘black’ agenda specifically targeting African Americans? Slavery laws, Emancipation Proclamation, 13th, 14th, 15th Amendments, Black Codes, Jim Crow, Civil Rights laws, Racial Profiling, Police Brutality, Criminal (in)justice system, Prison Industrial Complex, etc. That’s called ‘business as usual in America. Where’s the Beef???

Dear Bro. Tavis Smiley:
I would like to take a moment of your time to in-troduce myself. I'm the Rev. Lawrence L. Blanken-ship, author the book "The Divine Law". Even though we may never have met, I suspect you and I share some in common. Like you and the President Barack Obama, I believe in Jesus Christ and take the Bible seriously and believe deeply in the es-sentials of our faith. And like many, I am alarmed
by your words with Rev. Al Sharpton on Micheal Bates Radio talk show, who don't even know basic truths that the President is not helping Africa American, and whose lives just don't reflect the word's of truth. And I am alarmed at the way Fox News, and others are so often attacked...ignored... misrepresented...or violated in our society and others.See if the following facts make you and others shake your head as they do mine. Example: President Barack Obama bring all people together, rich, middle classes, poor, Democratic, Republic,Independent, white, black, latino, asian, native America, gay, straight, dis-abled, and help armed forces disabled American, who needed help. When the people received help you and I can celebrate. The President is try to execute or carry his policy into effect. Mr. Smiley,I heard the President says, in Chicago,"I am
inheriting an economy in peril, President Barack Obama, said, he warned that the nation faces the challenge of a lifetime and pledged he would act urgently to help "American" devastated by lost jobs, disappearing savings and homes seized in foreclosure". Mr. Smilry, people who promised change coutioned against hops of quick solutions. The President says, "It is not going to be easy for us to big ourselves out of the hole that we are in". The President is right, you and others knows that it is the true. The President did not
decive the American people. The American people, like yourself did not believe, and have faith. But, I do, I believe in God and His Son Jesus Christ. Mr. Smiley, are you behind the President?
How can you, Mr. Smiley says, President isn't help-ing Aftric American with economic in the black community. The President is for all "American" not for Afric American, you need to correct yourself. Do you agree with me, Mr. Smiley? Mr. Smiley, I need to preach to you, but, I am try to convince to you that people needed help, and the President is try to help all peoples. I understand this is a challenge for the American people, I believe they can make it happen, in God and His Son Jesus Christ name, It can be done. Thank you. In Jesus name we pray! Reverend Lawrence L.Blankenship
