Imagine an 80-year old woman ransacking and stealing cash from a major medical office in Torrance, Calif., with an extensive rap sheet stemming all the way back from 1955.
Sounds incredulous, right? Not.
Meet 80-year-old Doris Thompson, a tiny, feeble old woman with a hearing impairment. From the outside, Thompson seems harmless, but boy, looks can be deceiving.
On Wednesday, February 25th, Thompson was sentenced to three years in prison for burglarizing a Southern California medical office in Torrance, Calif.
Oh, and it gets crazier, Thompson had a widespread history of theft and has used 27 aliases in her lifetime. In addition, the elderly woman has even been arrested countless times during the past 55 years for burglary and petty theft.
During her hearing, the medical employees of the Southern California medical office described Thompson as being "sly and quiet," and stated that she must staged her robbery by slipping inside the medical office as a male employee worked and hid out until he left.
With her hair styled in pig tails and white bows, Thompson pleaded "guilty" and thanked the judge for not sending her to Los Angeles county jail, saying, "I don't think I'll ever come back-except I'm going to die and be in a morgue."
Knowing that she could have spent 12 years in prison for her recent break in, Thompson quickly accepted a plea bargain and showed the judge her gratitude for her shortened sentence by saying, "God Bless You."
Thompson was ordered to pay $1,400 in restitution for her crime and will be eligible for parole in 16 months.

Sister has been blessed to have her health and strength and to be clothed in her right mind at the age of 80. She could have been somewhere rocking or in a convalescent home but girlfriend is out and about being a cat burglar instead. I have a feeling she'll be able to handle herself very well among the younger women and they had better watch her if they don't want to lose their goodies. Are prisoners allowed to have cigarettes, petty cash, hygiene products etc.? I was just wondering. Lastly, grandma doesn't have to worry about keeping warm, having a place to live, eating every day or even health insurance. I hope the guards and her cell mates will treat her nice. Although she's a thief at least she has good home training and knows how to be polite and mannerable in court. Maybe they could give her a position as a mentor or elder to some of the others. She probably doesn't have any children that were able to help her out. I feel pity and compassion for this elderly woman and sincerely wish her well.

This reply is to Darnel.
It's called compassion. We look at at 80 year old who is not incorruptible, but simply a person who somehow lost her way and we have compassion for her remaining years.
Age does make a difference. If this was a 15 year old doing the same thing, would you want her to turn her life around and treat her somehow differently than you would a 35 year old with a long history of crime? I would hope so. To answer your question, even if it had been a 25 year old - especially if it's a first offense, then emphatically YES! I would want her to get some help to be able to do something different with her life. To treat her with a little dignity and compassion. An 80 year deserves to be called whatever we deem respectible.

Talk about a waste of 80 years.
Should have put her away 55 years ago. Old and useless. She needs to find an ice Flo and a Polar bear to stop being such a burden on society.
