Obama's Medical Checkup Results: 'Stop Smoking and Eat Better!'

President Barack Obama just completed his physical, and the results may surprise you. The president was examined by a team of physicians for 90 minutes at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.

The clinicians concluded, that although the president is 'the picture of health,' he should keep an eye on his creeping cholesterol levels, try to baby his tendinitis-stricken left knee a little more and kick that bad smoking habit to the curb.

The 48-year-old chief executive, although an avid hoops player and golfer, should modify his diet so that his present cholesterol levels -- HDL-62 and LDL-138 -- can get under control before trouble sets in. (Borderline high cholesterol starts at 200, with LDL considered in the same category at 130.)

Despite dealing with all of the lunacy and stresses of his job, the 180-pound,6-foot-1 president's blood pressure was way better than normal at 105/62 (normal range is 120/80). His pulse was also a noteworthy 56 (normal pulse for an adult can range from 60 to 100). Our leader also has eagle eyes, 20/20.

Obama took a virtual colonoscopy, which uses a camera to detect the presence of pre-cancerous growths, cancer and other diseases of the large intestine. He got a clean bill of health with regards to this test as well.

Tricky knees can be a pain, and since Obama likes to play hard on the basketball court, this is a major contributor to the popping and grinding he feels in his left one. As a result of his painful left knee, Obama is also starting to feel weakness in his left hip.

If the president wants to stay on track healthwise, he has to follow the advice of White House physician Navy Captain Dr. Jeffrey Kuhlman, who gave him some general recommendations:

  • Get your colon checked in another five years
  • Try and kick that dangerous smoking habit by continuing smoking-cessation efforts like chewing nicotine gum
  • For optimal heart health, maintain a daily exercise program; eat foods that are nutritious, moderate alcohol consumption
  • Don't neglect your teeth, stick to a dental maintenance program
  • Keep your immunization schedule up-to-date
  • Incorporate a knee-strengthening exercise regimen
