Grammy award–winning R&B singer D'Angelo was arrested early Saturday and charged with solicitation for allegedly sexually propositioning an undercover policewoman in New York City's West Village.
According to published reports, D'Angelo, 36, whose real name is Michael Archer, was cruising through lower Manhattan solo in a late model top-of-the-line Range Rover at around 2:30 a.m., when he spotted an undercover NYPD female officer whom he mistook for a prostitute.
The New York Post reports that the crooner offered the female officer $40 in exchange for oral sex. Upon arrest, a police search of D'Angelo's vehicle also uncovered a stash of $12,000 in cash.
It has been quite a while since one of the "founding fathers of neo-soul" has made headlines. Back in 2005, D'Angelo was involved in a near fatal crash in Virginia. He was seriously injured and had to be transported via helicopter to a nearby hospital, when his Hummer flipped over.
Since the accident, the singer has laid low and career-wise, he has not released an album in about 10 years. There is speculation, however, that D'Angelo has an album in the works that is slated to hit the streets this summer.

The brother was just "Cruisin" and he saw something he wanted. The cop should be flattered. That type of "Provocation" by any "Swine Department" should also be against the law. D' come on out this summer and break em' off with that new album Sun,"ONE".

I commented earlier, but excuse me. I called what the cop did to D'Angelo it Provocation. I meant "Provoking Entrapment" by any "Swine Department" should be against the law.

So it's the cop's fault for tricking this guy into an illegal and immoral (not to mention self destructive and antisocial) act?
This poor victim of the system would have been home knitting a sweater if it weren't for the evil undercover agent taunting him with her irresistible lips.
I'm glad they caught him and I hope the message gets through to the people that think this type of thing is ok. It's not. But if the threat of getting aids isn't enough to deter them, I guess it's not reasonable to think that the threat of a little prison time and some public humiliation is either.

Alcohol is a drug and in order to achieve sobriety from drug abuse we all must abstain from Alcohol too. I have heard "Bobby Brown" "Whitney Houston"and "Keisha Coles Mother "Frankie" admitt to being sober and recovering from drug addiction and in the same breath admitt to still drinking alcohol. They are not sober. De'Angelo needs treatment and he needs a 12 step program but so does most people walking on two feet. But until he wants treatment and wants help and the support of a 12 step program he will continute to spiral down. When will we wake up and take back our people from the ills of Alcohol, Drugs, and Sexually Transmitted Diseases. We sleep on the subliminal messages fed in our ears every day on Comercial radio..Drink, Drug, and Sex Raw..Trey SOnz, Jerimiah are non talented punks pushing poison in the airwaves. At some point we all have to get dressed and come out of the bedroom and deal with life on lifes terms so I cannot even find one beneifit in a song that does nothing but repeat "Birthday Sex" or a skinny weed head from VA bragging about "He Invented Sex."
De' Angelo is human and $40.00 must be the recession rate..LOL It is not funny but what it really is, is GOD is working it out and the evidence of family and friends really praying for this brother.. My prayers added..

what are u talkin about. there was no mention in this artical about drugs or alcohol. all he did was solicit oral sex. so what are u talkin about a 12 step program for u idiot. i think that police takin time to arrest to conscenting adults is a waste of time. and stop wasting peopl's tax dollars wit arrest of entrapment

This is rediculous! It's a all out case of entrapment. The cop should be arrested for solicitation. The hooker is just as guilty as the John and solicitation starts with the hooker. It's the oldest profession on earth and our corrupt legal system is using it to entrap people and ruin their lives. A very clever way to get free labor in our industrialized prison system.
