Grammy award–winning R&B singer D'Angelo was arrested early Saturday and charged with solicitation for allegedly sexually propositioning an undercover policewoman in New York City's West Village.
According to published reports, D'Angelo, 36, whose real name is Michael Archer, was cruising through lower Manhattan solo in a late model top-of-the-line Range Rover at around 2:30 a.m., when he spotted an undercover NYPD female officer whom he mistook for a prostitute.
The New York Post reports that the crooner offered the female officer $40 in exchange for oral sex. Upon arrest, a police search of D'Angelo's vehicle also uncovered a stash of $12,000 in cash.
It has been quite a while since one of the "founding fathers of neo-soul" has made headlines. Back in 2005, D'Angelo was involved in a near fatal crash in Virginia. He was seriously injured and had to be transported via helicopter to a nearby hospital, when his Hummer flipped over.
Since the accident, the singer has laid low and career-wise, he has not released an album in about 10 years. There is speculation, however, that D'Angelo has an album in the works that is slated to hit the streets this summer.

Have dug D'Angelo since "Brown Sugar" debuted - and the bro is incredibly gifted as both a musician, and singer. That being said - he really needs only 3 things in his life to get back on top:
1. God
2. A GOOD woman
3. A good chauffer (Stop drivin' D!)
He has the potential for something most of these so-called "artists" today don't - and that's longevity. But not if he keeps getting caught-up in unecessary drama and BS. Wish him well.

I am REALLY feeling you on this one! I too thought it was odd - and unecessary to mention the 12g in his ride. He didn't steal it - it's his - and he has the right to carry as much cash as he damn well pleases. The piglets "uncovered" it because their corrupt a*ses were looking for it! And knowing them - he probably more, but after their "cut" it became 12.

I know not to carry too much cash on me now after this incident.Apparently if you're AA, and have more money than cops think you should have - it's a "stash".Like it's stolen.Already knew we couldn't be caught driving expensive vehicles, but this is a new "violation" they've come up with.We deal with D.W.B (Driving While Black)- W.W.B (Walking While Black)- S.W.B (shopping While Black)..What's next? B.W.B (Breathing While Black!)
And they wonder why AAs are so hostile and angry.

The only thing thats wrong about sex between two GROUND PEOPLE is and if its RAPE, Other than that you're responsible for your own ACTION, This young man was just being a MAN, This is entrapment on the officer part, WHY IS THIS A CRIME?

I'm not familiar with the NY area but hear west village is where "trans" hang out. I suppose this is another "Eddie Murphy" incident. I wish black men would be honest with themselves and come out of the closet. They certainly would be more respected for it. If you are gay than you are just gay. You don't have to go around pretending to be someone you are not and making a fool out of yourself.

Paul, when did getting a blow job become immoral or self destructive? I have found them quite pleasurable. Maybe getting one would bring you into the 21St century. 5th and 6th graders are enjoying them and most honest adults have probably participated on one side or the other. It's high time the morals police retire anyway. Take a date to dinner for 40.00 or 50.00 and get a bit of oral sex after and it's ok. Offering 40.00 to someone on the corner waiting to be asked to take the 40.00 and you are arrested. NYC wake up!!!

Did you read the article? He wasn't on a date, he was soliciting a whore. I'll agree one could argue that putting out after a nice expensive date is on par with prostitution. On the other hand there is no denying that what he was attempting was illegal.
Immoral is a personal matter and there is no point in arguing. You say it's OK to support the illegal sex industry and I say it isn't. We'll leave it at that.
Self Destructive I can explain. By soliciting a whore he was hoping to gain a few minutes of pleasure, and was risking the following:
1) acquiring an STD that could range anywhere from an inconvenience to a death sentence.
2) Getting mugged by a whore or her pimp
3) paying a fine and/or going to jail
4) the embarrassment of having his mug shot plastered all over the tabloids
A rational mind would weigh the risks and go beat off.
I'd say this kind of behavior should be bad for his career, but after reading some of these comments, I'm not sure.

The Officer didn't trick him. He wanted to buy sex and pick the wrong person. If he has to buy a woman, he's in bad shape. With his money, he should have a fine woman without having to buy one.
