Mo'Nique Wins an Oscar
Channeling Hattie McDaniel, who was the first black woman to receive an Oscar for her role in "Gone with the Wind," Mo'Nique became the fifth black woman to win an Oscar. The stand-up comedienne gave tribute to McDaniel by wearing a blue dress and a gardenia in her hair, as McDaniel did 70 years ago. This morning in Turkey, a 6.0 earthquake hit while most were sleeping, with reportedly 50 aftershocks to follow. So far, 57 people are reported dead, and several villages were flattened. [Yahoo News]

More than 200 Nigerians Killed Over Weekend
In a religious battle that has raged on at least since 2001, Nigeria's Muslims, reported to be from the Hausa and Faulani tribes, killed at least 200 Christians, including a 4-day-old baby, this past weekend. Authorities intend to bury the victims in a mass grave today, but the violence is said to be in retaliation for the Christian-inflicted massacre, which killed 300 Muslims, in January. HIV Transmitted from Mother to Child to Be Eliminated By 2015
According to the United Nations, HIV transmitted from Mother to child should be consummately eliminated by 2015, if health programs continue to receive adequate funding.
