Congress wouldn't listen to people like Tiffany Owens talk about the need for affordable health care coverage, but maybe they will listen to her 11-year-old orphaned son, Marcelas.
Owens died, her family says, because she developed pulmonary hypertension and was unable to work. When Owens lost her job, she lost her health coverage and could not afford to buy any on her own. Owens fought for passage of health care reform in her final days, and now her son is carrying on in her memory.
"I'm telling the members of Congress that the health care bill should be passed because everyone deserves health care," Marcelas said during an interview on MSNBC.
"The health care system is broken, and it caused my mother's death," Marcelas added.
Talk about wisdom coming from the mouth of babes.Marcelas is an articulate and heart-wrenching example of why we need health care reform in this country. The young boy says he saw his mother struggle with the disease. She gained a lot of water weight and was unable to walk, he said.
Owens' mother said her daughter was "strong-willed and very independent."
"She was the kind of person who didn't want to ask for help if she didn't need it. A lot of that has impacted Marcelas," she said.
While Congress argues about the dollars and cents of health care reform, people like Owens are literally dying and children like her son are watching. It is the human costs that come with leaving 46-million Americans without health care coverage that we should be concerned about. That should be the driving motivation for Congress.
Marcelas says the reaction he has received from members of Congress to his lobbying efforts has been mixed.
"Half of them encourage me, but some don't like hearing what I say," Marcelas said. "What I want is not what they want," he added.
All Marcelas and millions of families without health care want is an affordable option to get it. They want to not worry about going bankrupt and becoming homeless because of medical bills. They want to know that if they become sick and lose their job after 30 years of working and paying taxes, that their medical needs will be met.
Marcelas is only 11, but he already knows that caring for people is more important than money. It's a lesson this country has yet to learn.

To all of you so-called SELF-SUFFICIENT, boot-strap Americans who don't want YOUR taxes used to pay for a "universal" healthcare program for ALL Americans--
If you're all that hardworking and SELF-SUFFICENT, why don't you pack your a$$es up and move to an island and that way you don't have to worry about healthcare reform.
OH NO--you can't...there's no one on the island to GIVE you a JOB WITH/HEALTH BENEFITS--LOL! And if you own a company--OH NO--you can't, there won't be anyone there to labor in YOUR company for low wages to help you MAKE ALL OF THAT MONEY. Also, there won't be any banks to loan you money or no "government" to give you tax breaks; no paved roads for you to drive your nice cars on or no hospitals to provide you with medical care.
Therefore, in the meantime you're here and need to SHUT THE HELL UP about socialism! Truth be told--the government "provides" plenty for you in order for you to have the lifestyle you enjoy--paved roads, utilities, police protection, the military, etc.
For a country that claims to be founded upon CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES--too many of you boot-strap Americans act more like citizens of an EVIL EMPIRE. The bottom line with healthcare is that in this "capitalist" system, the medical industry and insurance companies have been allowed to run amouck and have made the cost of healthcare out of reach for the average American. TOO MANY JUST CAN'T AFFORD the cost of healtcare in this country on their own.
If a country can't or wont' take care of its citizentry, then the citizens owe that country NOTHING--and that goes for paying taxes, serving in the military, respecting the law, etc!
Why don't we all just say to hell with supporting one another--every man for himself. The government be damned! Let's just see how long YOU so-called boot-strap Americans will last.
Can someone say BAIL OUT - LOL!

If socialism happened here, in america, and then all of the capitalist, hard working, people said NO to it, and revolted, there are only two possible outcomes.
1)You would have to kill everyone who didnt want to live like that, until it was onlt those who agreed with you. THAT IS FASCISM.
2)You wouldn't be able to kill everyone, and therefor could NOT FORCE PEOPLE TO SHARE....
SOCIALISM CAN NOT WORK PEOPLE!!!

We have always seen the faces of Euros as examples in need of change of healthcare, esp. by this current president. The faces of people of color ARE NOT promoted as positive examples of this Nation's need for healthcare reform. We are considered second class citizens living off of charity care or Medicaid/Medicare. This president ran on helping middle class, which does not include the needs of most of \black people.
Most middle class people of color are few pay-checks from slipping out of middle class status if cost of living prices continues to rise and loss of employment.

Please take the time to learn about a disease before you comment on how that person deserved it, or how they wouldn't have it if they took better care of their health. Pulmonary hypertension isn't hypertension and is not effected by diet! My PH was caused by Lupus. www.phassociation.org

Leave it to the ObamaCrats to use this boy for their cause to jam through their onwanted Health Care Bill. His mother had Medicade available to her, which she used at first but then did not when she started bleeding. Why, don't know. Have to ask her liberal mother. Obama is dangerous to this country, as is his Kool-Aide drinking ObamaCrats. I have to laugh when I see the seniors on the state during ObamaThons. Don't they realize that their social security and Medicare benefits are going to shrink if ObamaCare becomes law. Lot of those people on the stage are going to be out on the street with tin cups while waiting to get an appointment in six months where a panel will tell them they're too old for health care. This is so unbelievable.
