An announcement telling black shoppers to leave the building at a New Jersey Wal-Mart has store officials reviewing store security tapes and black patrons fuming.
A male voice said, "Attention Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now," over the the public address system Sunday evening at the Washington Township Wal-Mart in southern New Jersey.
Customers expressed surprise at the announcement, which is also being investigated by the local police and prosecutor's office. The store management apologized to shoppers.
A company spokesperson called the incident unacceptable and said the store is looking at how to prevent a repeat event.
Two local black women women who were shopping at the store during the announcement have said they will boycott Wal-Mart.
I can understand being upset with the message, but until someone can show that the store management was a party in making the announcement, a boycott is out of line.
If it was a store employee trying to be funny, they should see how funny things are from the unemployment line. And they should face whatever civil sanctions that may apply. The same goes for any non-employee who might have grabbed an unguarded microphone for the announcement.
If the announcement is part of a pattern, the store may bear some blame, but if it is a one-time incident there, and the store takes steps to make sure it doesn't happen again, Wal-mart should be held blameless.
Every Wal-Mart store I've ever visited had plenty of black patrons. The store operators didn't get to the top of the retail chain in America by encouraging silly announcements that could lead to anything like a boycott that would hurt the bottom line.

Why try to boycott now? When it was announced that wal-mart was racist in their hiring and pay practices, all they had to do is PROMISE to hire more minorities and apologise and we were fine. They know that the way to our hearts has been in the past to just give us a promise and we fall for it.It is sad.

If walmart knew this was a problem or potential problem they should have put the phones where the kids could not get to them. In some stores the employees carry the intercom on their person. The only phones in the stores are the ones that customers can call the
customer service. If NAACP was not receiving corporate donations from Walmart, they could put them in check. Those corporate donations coming over the intercom speak louder and clearer.

I gotta agree with a previous poster who asks, Where's the crime here" This was clearly some retarded racist's idea of fun, and Wal-Mart just happened to be his place of choice and opportunity to engage his ignorance. Wal-Mart- (as someone else said)- has too much at stake to be a part of this type of foolishness. To blame the corporation for some A-holes behaviour, is rediculous.

I'd like to know what happens to my comments, rarely ever does one slip through, and when I come back to check on the comments, I see that most have been removed. I feel as though Someone is controlling the responses. I do not use profane language. So , I say to the gremlin, stop obstructing. What are you afraid of?

Walmart under investigation? For what? Another dumb foolish crying game for blacks. Rangel, Sharpton, Jackson, Obama will all be there. Blacks do all the shoplifting. Someone was probably sick of it, because the courts do nothing. We had a saying, "If your black put it back".

Duke, I saw a report that there was an arrest in this incident! It was called a "bias incident", what in the world is that? Look out Duke, you can now get arrested for writing "If your black put it back" online. That could also be a bias incident. This is clear proof that the world is ending! Can you imagine being in jail for talking on a Walmart intercom and at the same time police pass by known drug dealer at know drug dealing areas and they are not arrested? Freedom of speech is over as we know it, arrested for speech WTF!

Wow...it was just reported that it was a dumbass 16 yr old that this this. Don't you conspiracy paranoid racists feel stupid. Already talking about boycots and blaming upper management. This reaction "lends credibility" to how this community overeacts to petty issues. I would lmao if it turns out to be a black kid who did this. In ya face;)
