First there was the 'gate-crashers' scandal that revolved around a crafty, star-struck pair--Tareq and Michaele Salahi--who 'snuck' into President Obama's first state dinner last November. Who did fingers eventually point at? Desiree Rogers.
Then there were the Vogue magazine photos, the Wall Street Journal cover, the front and center spot during Fashion Week in New York City, blah, blah, blah.... Then, no Christmas cards to some of Obama's biggest fundraisers--Gasp!
According to Politico.com, there is now speculation, that Rogers allegedly failed to send Christmas cards to the Obama supporters who are major players with mega bucks. Roger's card faux pas was quite possibly the last straw. According to a White House source, who disclosed the card incident to Politico, the "donors rose up, and that was another reason Desiree got pushed out."
Political watchdogs are predicting that Roger's merryless slight might indeed have implications that won't be pretty.
Really?
According to an analysis by Politico, only 15-- or just 10 percent-- of the 150 biggest fundraisers for the Obama campaign gave the maximum $30,400 to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) last year.
The idea that the absence of a yuletide greeting from the White House might make the remaining elite DNC supporters hold back on donating doesn't make sense.
The 'brand promoter' has left the building. On to bigger and better, Desiree!

Oh NO! Can somebody who does not perform their job to a professional level? The NERVE! She is a SCREW UP. She was more interested in being there than doing her JOB. She brought shame on the president's office. Good riddance.

Hey,if you're being paid to make sure the wallets feel like they are special which includes sending Christmas cards and fail to do so YOU GOTTA GO!! It may seem petty but in fact it is very important. Just think if you are a strong financial supporter and happen to see a Christmas card given to another supporter from the White House. You look through your pile of cards and notice that you don't have one. Major faux pas.

Being from Chicago, I can honestly say that Desiree is a very talanted and professional woman. She has done great works. When it comes to the subject of Christmas cards, I'm sure that responsibility was passed on to someone in the ranks, and being the professional she is, she assumed full responsibility for the blunder. In life, sometimes when you're the boss, you have to answer for others mistakes. I wish her all the best.

Does anyone here honestly believe that this woman- in her position - would be terminated for some Christmas cards not being mailed?! Even if -as she certainly would have- delegated this trite task to an underling who failed to do so - I hardly think the power machine would see that as cause to raise such a stink. There are obviously other problems that merited her release. Then again, can anybody say the word "scapegoat"? You know - the person that takes it up the a** for the f-ups of others. Just saying. . . .

Desiree Rogers.
Job description - White House Social Secretary.
RESPONSIBILITY & FUNCTION - is responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of official social events at the White House, the official residence and principal workplace of the President of the United States.
The Social Secretary is head of the White House Social Office, located in the East Wing of the White House Complex. The Social Secretary plans events ranging from those as simple as a tea for the First Lady and a single official guest, to dinners for more than 200 guests. The Social Secretary works with the White House Chief Usher to coordinate domestic staff and with the Chief of Protocol of the United States, an official within the United States Department of State, to plan state visits and accompanying state dinners. The Social Secretary works with the White House Graphics and Calligraphy Office in the production of invitations to social events.
The Social Secretary works on both the non-political functions of the presidency and the political, coordinating events for the President, the First Lady, and senior political staff. The White House Social Secretary serves at the president's pleasure and is appointed by each administration

---------------------------------------------------
Did Desiree Rogers get booted from her duties for being a Grinch? No. She got booted for not doing her job properly.
Before Ms. Rogers lobbied for and accepted the job as WH Social Secretary, she should have examined & understood the scope, responsibilities and duties of that job, instead of assuming that she could use the position as a platform to elevate herself with newfound fame and popularity as being the "first African American to hold that position" (ie, Vogue magazine photos, the Wall Street Journal cover, the front and center spot during Fashion Week in New York City, blah, blah, blah.... ) making her name nationwide in the African American community and become a power player in White House politics and on the political scene.
As the job description depicted, "The Social Secretary plans events ranging from those as SIMPLE AS A TEA for the First Lady and a single official guest, to DINNERS for more than 200 GUESTS.......so that means that sending X-mas cards to some of Obama's biggest fundraisers falls somewhere in-between those very simple and yet complicated duties and it's her responsibility as the person-in-charge to ensure that first, after that she is told directly (at the daily staff meeting, probably by the WH Chief-Of-Staff) to sent out those X-Mas cards to the big wallets, that she directs someone in her office to ensure that it is executed and provides follow-up to ensure that the task was completed in a timely manner and then at the next staff meeting, update the WH Chief Of Staff or the President meeting.
The failure to do that one thing (that may have seemed petty and underneath her and some bolggers here) to Ms. Rogers displayed to others in the WH and probably the Prez & First Lady herself, a pattern of inefficiency, lack of attention to detail and lack of supervisory/management skills on the behalf on Ms. Rogers and the final straw? ..........
The 'gate-crashers' scandal that revolved around a crafty, star-struck pair--Tareq and Michaele Salahi--who 'snuck' into President Obama's first state dinner last November.
Apparently, either Ms. Rogers felt that this job was (1) beneath her, (2) She underestimated the overall scope of her duties, (3) She personally seeked power, celebrity & influence just by being the WH SS and benefitting from being friends of the Obamas, or (4) she's an incapable & incompetent manager.
So author of this article - Ruth Manuel-Logan, using the term "Booted For Being a Grinch" to try and imply that her firing was some sort of foolish conspiracy on behalf of the WH is totally off-base and not useful at all in teaching out young brothers and sisters out there a valuable lesson: that when you have a position of authority and responsibility in a job as a leader & a manager, especially being in charge of others, that doing your job professionally, being on time and doing it correctly, no matter that task, is of utmost importance to the overall objective that has to be accomplished.....and sometimes you have to get your hands dirty in the performamce of your duties. It's not always sittin' behind a desk or staring into a laptop and barkin' orders at others all the time.
I don't care if Ms. Rogers had to drive a truck around D.C. (with a GPS or a road map) full of sugar cured Honey Baked Christmas hams, Butterball Turkeys & fruitcakes and deliver to each one of the Obama supporters; the major players with mega bucks, and personally had to knock on each door and hand those items out and say to each one with a smile "Merry Christmas"...THAT'S HER JOB!!
And from looking at each of these events: not sending out the X-Mas cards and the 'gate-crashers' scandal that revolved around a crafty, star-struck pair--Tareq and Michaele Salahi.....sneaking into the dinner party, Ms. Rogers failed on both ends of her job: both the SIMPLE & THE COMPLICATED in the non performamce of her Social Secretary duties.

Well, I did get my electronic Christmas card. It was cute...smile. Seriously though, able professionals often rise to their level of incompetence. If the workload is too heavy or you are unfamiliar with a task, you need to get help immediately. It's understandable to make a mistake one time, especially if you're new to a department or division. However, a true professional worth his/her salt should be able to correct errors, institute damage control and assure the same mistake doesn't happen again. Start with enlisting others to help you after-hours, take a quick course or assess how you can manage time or multi-task better. Otherwise, you will make the same or different mistakes repeatedly. That's unprofessional. Soon, you will be fired or asked to resign gracefully. Neither is pleasant. Personally, I believe the woman is very capable, just out of her league. I have never agreed with hiring tv media/on-air types to do a marketing/communications/public relations function. That's the fault of many groups who hire media personnel based on name/face recognition or popularity alone. My dad was in construction, but he told me, "There is an art to everything."
