At a health care reform rally on Capitol Hill Saturday, the sheet came off Tea Party protesters who have opposed President Barack Obama's most important policy initiative.
It was the white sheet of the Ku Klux Klan.
With chants of "Nigger, Nigger," white protesters opposed to health care reform yelled racist taunts and other curses at black members of Congress. At least one protester was arrested in one of the ugliest confrontations on the steps of Congress in recent memory.
The protesters who were supposed to be voicing their anger at the health care legislation slated for a rare Sunday vote exposed themselves for the racist reactionaries a good portion of them truly are.
Rep. John Lewis (pictured above), a Georgia Democrat and veteran of the 1960's civil rights marches, said the chants on Saturday reminded him of the darkest days of the freedom struggle.
Rep. Barney Frank, a Massachusetts Democrat who is openly gay, was taunted with chants of "faggot" by others in the crowd.
The protesters, many of whom were identified as Tea Party members, can't let the arguments they make against the reform package, many of them quite legitimate, simply stand on their own merit.
Now in the final hours before the vote, momentum is shifting toward passage of the president's proposal. And a sense of desperation is causing subtle racist and homophobic leanings among some protesters to rise to the surface.
I'm not going to say the racists at Capitol Hill yesterday represent the majority of anti-health care reform supporters.
But the hateful outbreak should send a loud message to black people: be vigilant.
For a segment of white America, health care reform is all about a black president doing something for the have-nots, like providing health care reform for 30-million Americans who can't afford insurance.
Absolutely nothing President Obama will do in office will ever satisfy them, so look very carefully at their arguments and rationale when they attack the president. And don't be surprised if the attacks become more brazen and racist in their nature.
For them, it's all as simple as black and white.

Ummm... Violence is not the answer and I think MLK Jr. would agree with that, no matter how frustrating a situation. Violance as an answer to violence only results in more violance. Researching for yourself and educating yourself on all topics is key to becoming successful.

@ Chris, I understand your comment but I respectfully disagree. You should understand that Man uses the bible to justify inhuman actions. Did you know that Whites used the bible to justify slavery, prohibit, the mixing of races, Hitler used the bible to slaughter millions of humans. IMHO you contradict youself here >> "Because God created the world and everyone and everything in it...Why God made a certain group of people a certain way even though actions that are natural to THEM is a sin to Him is only something He can answer." One point you indicate that he is the creator of everything, then the second quote your implying HE made a mistake? Since GOd is suppose to be perfect then there is no sin made by him? People dwell on Gay but we as people sin on a daily basis so are we all supposed to be condemned to hell? You should Google "What the Bible Says" and watch "Religuous" Documentary. Religion is non-sense. There is a God but religion is a business just like any other organization made by man.

The Tea Party memebers are nothing more than relics from the past that are festering because they feel they lost contol of a country that wasn't theirs to begin with. Their members are nothing more than hate mongers with too much time on their hands. I would like to know don't these people work? When do they find the time and energy to conduct their nonsense. I hope that the unemployment figures don't count these moron bubble heads. Their honorary Spokeswoman Sarah Palin is their queen bubblehead . I don't understand how someone like that is thrusted into the spotlight and can be so dumb? She is so dumb even George W. Bush stayed clear (That is a profound statement)Those nut jobs need to get a grip and move into the 21ST century. This is the same playbook used during the Civil Rights Movement just different or for some the same players. American media outlets shame on you for giving these tarts the publicity and encouraging them to be destructive on moving America forward. By no means do I agree with everything the President doing (HealthCare Reform) was comprimised but he is trying.

What kind of reporting is this? Completely unsubstantiated accounts of racist remarks and we can tell the writers bias as he claims "the sheets came off." This kind of story is so libelous, a lawsuit should have been brought against the writer and any organization that published this crap. The reward for any video/audio evidence for these alleged racial remarks remains unpaid over one month later, as no evidence has surfaced.

Any reason why the KKK isn't angry with "white" Democratic Congressional members? Obviously, the majority (of them) also agreed to Heath Reform...
[profane] IDIOTS.

Racism exists on all levels, white people can be racist toward black people, black people to white people, white people to hispanic people and black people to hispanic people, asian people and so on. But believe me when I say there is only one race, The HUMAN race. The idea of racism exists because people want it to exist, and they want to exist in order to separate people. Political opinions should rise above race because it is just not important. What is important is doing what's right for the people, including limiting government and being fiscally responsible with our nations budget. The only color Americans should be concerned with is the color green, because that color is quickly dwindling in the federal reserve. EVERYONE needs to rise above race, stop accusing people of being anything other than human. The people saying gay and racial slurs are disgusting to human society, but I would not trust that they are associated with any political party. Their one mission is to segregate the people and we all must show that we will not submit to their BLATANT attempts to oppress the HUMAN spirit. Everyone abhors racists, not just minorities, EVERYONE.
