Health Care Reform Passes

Yesterday was a tense day as President Barack Obama manned phones, connecting with Congressional lawmakers to ensure that the vote of the day--on health care reform--would indeed go through. And it did. Close to midnight, it was announced that health care reform had indeed passed in Congress. The President would give a speech shortly after, where it was clear that the momentous and historic nature of the legislation wasn't lost on the commander-in-chief: Seven presidents could not get health care reformed, but President Obama, after much debate, speeches and the recounting of America's needs, did. Tiger Woods Has First Interview

Last night, Tiger Woods answered questions on the Golf channel - his first televised interview – about the sex scandal that saw him fall from grace. While the star golfer divulged little about his personal life, he criticized himself and his past behavior indiscriminately: "It was disgusting behavior. It's hard to believe that was me, looking back on it now." [Black Voices]

Protests Take Place for Immigration
Reform
Not even waiting for health care reform to pass, thousands of immigrants and activists demonstrated on the national mall in Washington, D.C., yesterday for immigration reform. The President issued a statement on video, claiming he would work with lawmakers to come up with a bipartisan solution to a "broken immigration system." [NY Times]

PETA Is Up in Arms Over Tyson's New Reality Show

The ever-vigilant PETA sent a letter to the Brooklyn district attorney's office last Thursday to complain about Mike Tyson's new show. Tyson has a show about pigeon racing coming out on Animal Planet. PETA alleges that illegal gambling and cruelty to animals has taken place. The district attorney is said to be investigating.
