Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh gave America reason for hope recently, when he made a public pledge to move to Costa Rica if health care reform were to pass through Congress. In a move that pleased many of those who would like for Limbaugh to return to the rock from which he came, Limbaugh promised that if Obamacare were implemented, he would make the big move to the country whose health care system he respects:"If this passes, and it's five years from now and all that stuff gets implemented -- I am leaving the country. I'll go to Costa Rica."
What's most ironic about Limbaugh's pledge is not just the fact that millions of Americans would love to see Limbaugh leave the country, but that Costa Rica has a far more socialized health care system than we have here in the United States. Not only does the country provide universal health care coverage for its citizens, but the country has a strong public option. The system also works quite well, as Costa Rica has a life expectancy second to only Canada in the Western Hemisphere. The country's health program was rated "excellent" by a study in the American Journal of Public Health.
So, Limbaugh inadvertently did his liberal enemies a huge favor by drawing attention to the country whose socialist health care system he admires. Limbaugh, one of the right wing talking heads who constantly rants about Obama's alleged socialist plot to take over the world, has (surprise) put his foot in his mouth.
Of course, once health care reform passed through the House of Representatives, Limbaugh started back pedaling. If it seems as though he's being a hypocrite for running away from his previous pledge, the answer is "yes." Limbaugh, the man who once argued that drug addicts should go to prison, is himself a recovering drug addict. But Limbaugh fully understands that he is a clown-like public figure only meant for entertainment. It is our fault for actually taking him seriously.
This incident also points out one other important truth about Limbaugh that the world has yet to fully realize: The man is not very smart. He is uneducated (well, he did get his high school diploma), and a terrible person to be in a position of influence within American politics. His public smack down of black Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele reiterates the fundamental disrespect that he has for black people as well. I jokingly refer to Limbaugh as part of my "Axis of Ignorance," including himself, Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly. When these three men are off the air, that will be a huge step toward living in a truly post-racial America. Their very existence as prominent media figures is a manifestation of the fact that we've got a long way to go.

Will, you don't trust republicans but you sure will take are money to pay for your healthcare. If you had a brain you'ed understand that Obama care is going to bankrupt America which is already bankrupt how much more will have to be added till we totally collapse. And now that the Government controlls your healthcare soon they will demanding more from you,one day they'll be breaking down your door in the middle of the night because they now own you and the constitution that protected you from this. You laughed at and help destroy it so you could have the government take care of you. Everything comes at a price.

While I detest Rush, because I think he and his ilk are essentially traitors trying to instigate a civil war and don't care how many Americans are harmed as long as Republicans regain the White House, I must say that I understood he vowed only to seek health care in Costa Rica.
Of course, this idea is absolutely nonsensical--as Rush typically is. Why his doctors and his coverage would become worthless to him under the new U.S. system is beyond me. The only changes he'd face is the elimination of exclusions barring coverage of pre-existing conditions, the elimination of a pre-set cap on his coverage, and a prohibition against his health insurer dropping him.
Maybe rush can develop a chronic problem just serious enough that he has to stay in Costa Rica. Of course, he's being rather presumptuous, as usual, to assume he will be welcomed there.

Eddie, why don't you help that idiot Rush "Limburger" pack and pack your own junk as well, this way we catch two flies with one swat. You're no better than he is. And, I bet you go to church on Sundays just to be seen. I bet you even feel good about it. But you remain the same creep the rest of the week, you could care less how many poeple in this country suffer, just so long as you don't have to put some money out of your fat republican pocket. You are no better than Limbaugh and all his idiot friends. Shame on you all!

Eddie,
It's truely amazing how ignorant some people are. If you can't spell or use legible grammer, then you probably should keep your propaganda bullshit to yourself. Those of us with brains have already examined the Health Care Bill, and understand how desperately this country needs it. Bankrupt America????!!!! Didn't you forget about the previous excuse for a president that we just got rid of. It won't be long before average Americans will start seeing the great things this President is accomplishing for our country. You are the idiot!

Wow, That is scary. Eddie, you appear to be uneducated but painfully willing to attempt to get your point across. What I have gotten from your comments, is we need to spend more money on our education system as well as health care. Perhaps you and Rush can both go to Costa Rica.

Eddie,
Will seems to have a lot of good reasons not to trust republicans. People are now able to get healthcare. Less than 1/2 hour after that became possible, the republicans decided to try and take that away. It is kind of like the people in my hometown who called themselves holding a "white pride" rally without spreading hate. News reports stated that they showed up with their faces covered and carrying swasticas. The actions do not line up with the rhetoric. There is no use lying to minorities and the socioeconomic underprivileged; we know the truth. We understand the math involved in paying for healthcare and we understand where the money comes from. You are only preaching to the choir. Yes, I know that I cannot convince you of another view, but understand that we have understood how certain people feel about caring for others and other groups even after Civil Rights and Voting laws were passed. The recent bad behavior is proof of how the "right" never cares about us little people. Boy are they frustrated right now. We can see what type of people they really are. They are selfish and self-serving. They are feeling the same type of frustration that they caused others with their Wall Street/Banking games and domination over the poor. They feel their country is being taken from them. No it is not being taken from them. The excess of power and the will to coordinate everything for themselves is being taken away. It is like this my brother. If I had too much food and you needed food, then I would help you. The best should serve the rest. Really, the Republicans promote God in everything they do. It is time for them to start working in a way that would make their God proud; they should be helping people. Or, I don't know, maybe they don't believe in God and just use him as a tool to play people. Rush Limbaugh is playing you. Perhaps you should try to convince Will that the Republicans are caring people even though they want to take everything away from people who do not have anything to begin with. Rush Limbaugh and all of the republicans you see in the media are getting rich from preaching to you. If Will is taking money to pay for his healthcare, then understand that it is not just your Republican money; he is taking my money because I ain't no Republican or Democrat. It is okay with me. I want those who need my money to have healthcare, because I care about others. Strange concept isn't it? As a minority and a former person or povery, I can tell you that not having what you believe you should have is not cause to worry about a government takeover. I will tell you what they told me. Get yourself an education. Become a better person. You have every opportunity for success in our great country. Be a happy person. This is all so very depressing and sad; I just cannot believe that after 40 years, people are still like this.
