Severe Bee Deaths Threaten Our Food Supply
Two federal agencies and scientists are deeply worried about the state of honeybees in our environment. The past four years has seen the majority of bees leave their hives to go off in die. Bees are responsible for pollinating plants that comprise one third of our diet. Their inability to pollinate plants severely affects our food supply. This past winter also didn't help matters: According to a survey of bee brokers, one third of them had difficulty finding enough hives to pollinate California's nut trees; these trees are the world's main source for almonds. Many are citing pesticide use as the reason for the bee decline. Chemists are desperate to find the cause and solution to the bee problem. [Yahoo News]
