Obama to Sign Student Loan Legislation Today

The so-called final chapter of the health care legislation, written by senators and approved by President Barack Obama last week, also included several provisions for education, which are said to be "the largest rewrite of federal college assistance programs in four decades." A part of that package is a bill the president intends to sign today in Virginia, where student loans will no longer be owned by banks but will instead be owned and loaned out by the government. This new legislation is supposed to make education more affordable. [AP]

Security Tightened in America After Moscow Subway Deaths

After two women blew themselves up during rush hour in Moscow, American subway systems beefed up security. In New York, more police monitored subway stations and random searches were conducted. Atlanta also sent out more officers based on authorities' recommendations. Subway systems are a popular choice for terrorists, as there is a high volume of people in a small space and less security. For example, both London and Madrid experienced terrorism on their railways, and Colorado resident Najibullah Zazi pleaded guilty last month to plotting to blow up the New York subway system.
