Obama Comments on Gov. McDonnell's Slavery Omission

When asked about Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell's omission of slavery from his Confederate history decree for the controversial Confederate History Month, President Barack Obama told NBC news in Prague that the omission was "unacceptable" and that people should be more careful when dealing with "issues like slavery that are so fraught with pain and emotion." Tiger Debuts in Top Form at Masters

Yesterday, star golfer Tiger Woods left all the scandal behind him as he played extraordinarily well for his debut at the Masters. Woods hadn't played since last year but looked as though he never left the green. Not only did he make two eagles in a single round (the first time he's ever accomplished that at the Augusta Nationals), but he ended his match with the his lowest score ever at the Masters. Wisconsin DA Threatens Health Teachers with Criminal Charges

Wisconsin's Juneau County District Attorney (DA) Scott Southworth, a Republican and Christian evangelical, is being criticized for admonishing school districts to tell health teachers that they can no longer teach students how to put on condoms or take birth control pills. The DA went as far as threatening any teacher who doesn't abide by this measure with criminal charges. For many, the DA's new direction on sex education is perceived as a step backward in comprehensive teen health education. [Washington Post]

Republicans Needed to Pass Nuclear Weapons Treaty

With President Barack Obama and Russian President Dimitry Medvedev signing a treaty yesterday that would decrease the number of warheads each country would have, Republicans are expected to back the President on this legislation and help get it passed by the Senate by the end of the year. Republicans, though, have been extraordinarily resistant to bipartisanship during President Obama's term, so some are wondering if the GOP will put their common defense interests aside in order to create gridlock once again on the vital issue. The President needs 67 votes in order for the treaty to pass, but has only 59 Democrats in the Senate. Time will tell. [Yahoo News]
