Two people familiar with the police interrogations of the two young boys accused of gang rape of a 7-year-old girl have stated that police may have coerced the boys in to a confession.
Two men, 20-year-old Gregory Leary (pictured below left) and 19-year-old Timear Lewis (pictured below right), along with three other boys, aged 13, 14 and 17, have been charged with gang-raping a girl at a party that happened on March 28. The girl's sister was charged with promoting prostitution, since it is alleged that she sold her little sister to the men who raped her.

Kevin Main, the attorney representing the 17-year-old, has reviewed police interrogations and is arguing that words may have been put in to the mouths of the men being accused of rape.
"Whatever they are agreeing to, it is with the expectation that they go home when they are done," Main said.
Last week, the little girl's stepfather said that Lewis, Leary and the 17-year-old were trying to help the girl and were not involved in the rape. The youngest boys were shown pictures and asked to sign the ones that showed people who were at the party.
"It's clear which [ones] police want them to sign and which ones they don't want them to sign," Main said. "At no time did they mention my client's name. When officers brought up my client's name, they got an 'uh-huh' out of one of the kids."
Main also argued that the police played the boys against one another during the interviews, stating that each one said he saw the other one engaged in sex with the child. The official sharing information with the Associated Press spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation from police. The official also stated that the 13-year-old cried for much of the interview and repeatedly asked for his mother.
After a great deal of questioning, both boys admitted that they had sex with the girl; however, they also stated that they felt pressured to make up a story and implicate others at the party, according to Main and the official.
"I should just make up a story to get it over with," the official recalls the 13-year-old boy saying.
I am not sure what's going on here, but whatever it is, it sounds dirty. New Jersey is a state with a disturbing number of very public, very violent crimes in recent history. A few months ago, a man threw his baby daughter off a bridge, and just a few weeks ago, a couple was robbed and killed right after their engagement party. While the criminals of New Jersey might be of a different breed, it is likely the case that the police may sometimes engage in desperate and unethical tactics to get the convictions they need. We cannot allow our hunger for justice to cause us to violate the civil rights of those being accused of this heinous crime, that would hurt all of us in the long run.
Here's a latest look in to the case:

I would like to see how your story would read if it was your daughter that was the one who got raped??? I agree justice should be done. Police do not convict any one, that is what the court, judge, jury and lawyers do. I am simply sick that you would even start trying to defend these guys!! So by the "Dad's"(and I use that word very loosely)statement, none of the older guys did anything. So are we to believe that it was all the younger boys?? But wait the "dad" said the older boys were being forced at gun point...so were the young teens the one's holding the gun on them?? Or were there others there??? If there were why are they not giving them up??? So don't sit there and act like the cops are the bad guys in this situation Dr W!! Why don't you do us all a favor and stop pulling a Nancy Grace and trying to tell us how it went down when you don't know jack about the case!!!! I can't fathom how you are trying to turn this around on the police, don't you have any sense of decency? Again, I would be interested to see how your writing would change if it was your daughter, but do not get me wrong I am not wishing that on your family, I would be just a low life loser if I did. I would never wish any child, parent, sister, brother..etc to have to go through this. I just don't think you have stopped to use any empathy for the victim in this case. Who really cares what step-dad said, were the heck was he when his 2 young dtr's were out at this party in the first place? And how is it that one of the accused parents knew him and his phone # to call him and ask him to come down and make that statement?? There is some big BS going on here. I will follow this one through the trial! I will also watch to see if you keep pulling this jacked up crap and if it comes out like it is looking I will be sure to expose just how "WRONG" you were. You make entirely too many allegations against white's and cop's that are so far off base, and when they come back to prove you wrong you can't even be man enough to admit you were wrong!! And a lot of people I talk and deal with day in and day out are as sick of it as I am! Step lightly Dr W, people are tired of your one sided, facts being left out, nothing but pure BS stories!!!!

If it was my daughter who was raped I would want to see justice. I would want to see those responsible pay for their crime and pay dearly. However, I would never ever want to see an innocent person locked away for something they didn't do. This has happened again and again in America, especially to young black men. I would rather see nobody prosecuted than see an innocent man prosecuted. That's because I believe in justice - not revenge and I question the motives of those who condemn Dr Boyce for this article.

I could not agree with you more Stephanie!! Like I posted, the truth will come out in the trial. Then peeps can give their honest opinion of what happened. Right now we just don't know but it does not look good for those arrested, or the step dad if you ask me. I still think he had more to do with this party than any one knows!!
@ North: I agree, let the cops do their jobs!! You can not charge them all as bad because of a few (gee where have I heard that before???) bad cops. But on the other hand you can not come down on them for not helping neighborhoods and then slam them when they do go in and make arrest!! Dr W seems like he is not happy one way or the other! He has got them as "damn if you do and damn if you don't". A very sad statement when his own father was an officer!!!

those boys were all there... even if they didn't have sex w/ the girl they should all be held accountable.... even watching is a sick crime... and the dad is a freaking sex offender (he was held for improper acts w/ a 5yo). And it's not like the cops are trying to frame a random black man for murder. These men/boys were ALL there... and the girl was harmed.... they need to get the truth out. It's called doing your job. What are they supposed to do, just ask them nicely if they did it? and when the kids say no, just let them go. Get real!

Doc, you disgust me! Is anyone ever responsible? When the case is hopeless, blame the cops.

it's not telling what really happened, if those grown men did rape that little girl they need to be punished. and asked how or why they did it, surely they had to tell she was young from her height or body size, or conversation. if they stepfather did he, he needs to take responsibility for what he did and not blame anyone else.

What about the little girls sister. She's the one who took her little sister there. Would'nt she know who did it. She so call sold her for sex. The little girl should be able to pick out her attackers. We only hear what the writers want us to hear about the story. I would make sure the 15 year old girl show me who did it. This story is so unclear.

I feel for that little girl most of all. These young man killed this child. She will never be the same even with the help of doctors. If you want to blame someone, blame yourselves for allowing this soceity to disrespect black females the way that they have. Black weman have to live down the shame that this country has put on us. You even put it into records for the world to hear. And the shame that our boys has mistakenly thought of this as being his manhood. This little girl is your sister, mother, cousin, aunt, and friend even your grandmother. It took a village to make something like this happen. It will take a village to stop it. White people steped on your necks to feel like a man. So you step on black weman's neck to feel like a man. The rotten ones are seen so much more clearer than thoes good men. Think about it. Where do we go from here.
