Judge Greg Mathis on Black Men

Like everyone else, I've always known about Judge Greg Mathis and his nationally syndicated television show, but it wasn't until I heard Greg speak at the Rainbow Push Convention that I truly gained respect for him. During his speech, Mathis talked about black men standing up to fight for what is right in their communities. He mentioned that by educating ourselves and being diligent in our participation in this society, we can correct many of the ills that affect us.

Black men face the triple whammy of horrible educational systems, massive unemployment and excessive incarceration in America's prisons. In fact, our country incarcerates 5.8 times more black men than South Africa did during apartheid. With unemployment rates of 19 percent to 20 percent, the truth is that we have to find a better way to get things done. Mathis is part of the solution to these issues.

I had a chance to speak with Mathis in New York recently. The conversation is below if you'd like to see it. Enjoy!
