Aiyana Jones

The latest in the case of Aiyana Jones, the 7-year-old girl killed in a Detroit Police Raid:

Rev. Al Sharpton is to deliver the eulogy at the funeral for Aiyana Jones: Civil Rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton is set to appear in Detroit on behalf of the family of Jones and speak at her funeral. I spoke with Sharpton right after the shooting, and there is a great deal of concern about what happened, as well as unanswered questions.

The suspect arrested (Chauncey Louis Owens) in the raid that killed Aiyana Jones is charged by police: The allegation is that Owens shot a 17-year-old because he "looked at him the wrong way" at a store. There's no other way to describe the senseless nature of both of these deaths.

Funeral arrangements have been made for Aiyana Jones: Visitation will be Friday, May 21, at the Swanson Funeral home. The funeral will follow on Saturday, May 22, but a location has not yet been announced.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing breaks his silence in the death of Aiyana Jones: Bing is targeting the attorney in the family's lawsuit, Geoffrey Fieger, claiming that he is only interested in money. I'd spent some time critiquing the fact that Bing took so long to issue a statement to the public. The Detroit community needs strong leadership in a time like this.
