Julianna Farrait

Its tough for a tiger to change its stripes.

And in the case of the 70-year-old Julianna Farrait (pictured above), wife of Frank Lucas, one of the most notorious drug kingpins in American history, prison stripes might again be a part of her wardrobe.

Farrait was arrested in Puerto Rico this week for trying to sell four pounds of cocaine.

Farrait, whose 1970s-era drug dealer husband was the inspiration for the film 'American Gangster,' made a court appearance this week, and a judge will decide if she will receive bail.

The 2007 'Gangster' movie starred Denzel Washington, telling the gritty tale of how Lucas built a drug empire in New York City. Farrait served five years while Lucas was sentenced to 40 years in that 1975 case. He was released in 1991.

In recent interviews, Farrait admitted that the excesses of the high-flying, money-spending drug-dealer lifestyle became addictive. She said she missed the jewelry and travel.

I can sympathize to some degree. It must be nice to live the first-class lifestyle.

But isn't the price of possibly spending your so-called golden years in prison a bit too high? And what about all of the profits she has made to the detriment of her community? But then, if she had a conscience, she wouldn't still be caught slinging rocks at 70 years old.
