I admit that I was taken aback by the attacks of Fox News host Glenn Beck against President Barack Obama's daughter Malia. I normally pay very little attention to Beck, which is a policy of mine that isn't going to change anytime soon. To see a 46-year-old man, though, go after an 11-year-old girl on national television concerned me a great deal. I wondered if there was no low that Beck and his colleagues would be willing to stoop to in order to attack the president, and whether his Fox News fan base and corporate sponsors would cheer him on as he verbally assaults the intelligence of a child.
During a segment of his show, Beck spent time making fun of the question Malia posed to her father about the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. For several minutes, Beck mocked her with a whiny voice and even accused the Obama family of having uneducated children.
Beck's apology was even weaker than his verbal assault on Malia Obama. On his Web site, he issued this statement:
"In discussing how President Obama uses children to shield himself from criticism, I broke my own rule about leaving kids out of political debates. The children of public figures should be left on the sidelines. It was a stupid mistake and I apologize -- and as a Dad I should have known better."
Translation: "I am not taking very much responsibility for my behavior, which is why the statement is so short. The president is to blame for all this because he used his daughter to protect himself. This is not something I would normally do, because I really am a decent guy. You can tell I'm decent because I have kids of my own. Oh, by the way, I'm sorry."
Beck and Fox News should be ashamed of this behavior. Beck, by attacking a child in this way, is proving to the world that he has nothing intelligent or meaningful to add to public debates and is simply a political comedian with a large platform. A more sincere apology should have come from Fox News itself, while simultaneously applauding the Obama family for raising intelligent and productive children. The idea that Malia, at the tender age of 11, has the compassion to ask her father about oil spills and other meaningful political events, implies that this child is special, considerate and as brilliant as her parents. She is certainly more intelligent, informed and compassionate than Beck himself.
Any corporation that makes money or sells products in the name of Glenn Beck and his television and radio shows should ask themselves if they want to be associated with someone who feels it necessary to attack innocent children. Beck went entirely too far, and I am sure that even his buddy Bill O'Reilly won't back him on this one.

Mr. Beck attacks an 11 year old. Very impressive! He even attacked her intelligence and education! This was a big mistake because he is not in the same league with the President's young daugter. He should choose a more suitable oponent, one more
closely related to his intelligence, The Presidential dog.

Glenn Beck should be ashamed of himself. There is no excuse for being so inconsiderate to find it necessary to attack and berate any child. His explanation and apology rehearsed and artificial. Fox News should also issue an apology in addition to add some semblance of respectability to their network. The derogatory sensationalism and rhetoric that they disseminate is angry, bitter, and unprofessional. I take the time to listen to Fox on occasion to stay abreast of the latest derogatory statements regarding President Obama. Hate, racism, and separatism are at the core of Fox's agenda.

Guarantee you "Dr." Boyce Watkins made half of it up like every other story he posts. I remember the one when he said Rush Limbaugh was backpedaling on his promise to leave America if the healthcare reform was passed. Well anyone that actually LISTENS knows that he just said he would seek healthcare somewhere else, that was all. Watkins is just a racist pig. So this story to is probably made up. Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, and the rest have the best interest of America at heart. Remember that

snafu, I agree with you to a certain extent. I feel that children should be off limits when it comes to political matters, period. Beck made a horrible mistake and I'm flabbergasted as to why he would do such a thing. On the other hand, I admire him for pointing out the absurdity in our government today. Racism goes both ways, yet somehow it's okay as long as it's directed against the "oppressive white man."

1st you need to check what racism means & please don't use wiki. Anyway so the good Dr. is nothing but a liar? hmmm I 1st saw the "news" on AP but I guess the AP lies to? You're hate for people of color has blinded you. So there no point in trying to reason with someone like you. I just wanted to point out those 2 "facts" you made.
1. The story of Beck was on AP & USA Today websites last weak
2. The good Dr can be a "bigot" but not a racist, even though he's neither.
Again your hate for African Americans & probably other races blinds you. I've checked many of your past post & they all have "an issue" where you seem to blame on blacks to counter any issue dealing with them & whites ... interesting I would love to study you more for my degree..

Pity you don't have the intelligence to read other news articles that addressed this same issue, or listen to other news stations. If you did, you would see and hear that this was true. But when people like you have racist mindsets, even if something slaps you in the face you would still deny it, and blame it on another race for happening. Guess you wouldn't mind an attack on your kids (if you have any), because you probably don't care one iota about your kids any way. Why don't you find a rock and crawl under it? That would be best for society, to get rid of stupid, ignorant people like you.
