Medical Board Still Wants Dr. Conrad Murray's License Suspended

The Medical Board's efforts to strip Dr. Conrad Murray's license to practice have not ceased. Board representatives plan on going after the good doctor with both barrels in order to stop him from practicing medicine altogether in the state of California.
Dr. Murray was Michael Jackson's internist and he is being prosecuted for giving the mega entertainer propofol, the anesthetic that killed him. The doctor, who was Jackson's physician for three years prior to his death, can no longer legally administer heavy sedatives or propofol as mandated by the Texas Medical Board, where the physician holds a license.

Although in court documents Dr. Murray contends he will not practice medicine in the state of California, the filing states, "There is no legal bar to him changing his mind and engaging in practice in this state." The filing further mentions, "It is not just his 'prescribing' practices that are in question, but his fundamental judgment and skill as a physician."

The state attorney general's office also chimed in and argued in a brief on Monday that the current mandates against Murray's use of anesthetics is insufficient.

Meanwhile, Dr. Murray's attorney told the Associated Press that he will file a response with the court this week.

Dr. Murray is scheduled to appear in court on June 14th. As the holder of medical licenses in Nevada and Texas, Dr. Murray's legal team has previously debated how unnecessary it is to revoke his license in California, because he does not practice in the state. The lawyers also contend that the California revocation could have calamitous effects on his ability to continue to practice at his clinics in Nevada and Texas.

Last February, Dr. Murray pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of the King of Pop. If convicted, the physician faces a four-year prison term.
