Democrats Hold Up Primary for Questionable Candidate Alvin Greene

In case you don't know, Alvin Greene is the South Carolina Democratic nominee for the Senate. Greene has about as much political credibility as a can of dog food, and he makes George W. Bush look like Abraham Lincoln.

I am not proud of Greene, nor am I happy that he's running for anything. The truth is that he simply doesn't appear to belong in politics or any position of responsibility. It's not that I have so much respect for politicians -- I generally don't trust them -- but I only had to watch one interview with Greene to know that he probably wasn't the one to put himself in the position that he is in right now.

Democratic Whip James Clyburn has called for an investigation into Greene's candidacy, and I agree with that assessment. The Democratic Party has recently upheld Greene's win, primarily because it can't find a way to prove any wrongdoing. I'd like to know how this unemployed veteran, who doesn't seem to know whether he was honorably discharged or whether he printed up thousands of flyers or just 100, came up with the $10,400 filing fee to enter the primary.

I am usually very happy when the underdog gets a chance to win, but I'm not supportive when I believe that Republicans might be playing games. The campaign was brought to the South Carolina Democratic Party Executive Committee by Vic Rawl, who lost to Greene. The 61-member committee rejected Rawl's protest by a 5-to-1 margin.

Greene is facing a felony obscenity charge, and there are ongoing investigations into voting machine problems or anything else that might have led to Greene's surprise win, which occurred with almost no campaigning whatsoever.

Greene is set to face Jim DeMint in the final election. I sincerely hope the Democrats don't fold on this issue, which appears to be a serious violation of the civil rights of the people of South Carolina.
