Racist Graffiti in Tennessee Dims Vacation Home Dreams

All Deborah and Kenneth Boyd were looking for was an undeveloped lot to build a vacation home on.

Instead, the couple finds themselves at the center of an ugly racial attack that has shocked the small community of Lebanon in central Tennessee.

Just days away from closing the sale on an undeveloped parcel of land, the couple found a drawing of a man hanging from a noose and a racial slur drawn on the property's entrance.

It isn't clear why an "unwelcome wagon" visited the Boyds, who have a 13-year-old daughter.

Though authorities report that hate crimes are down in the state this year, Ron Hooten, a Lebanon resident, reported that another racial slur was painted near the entrance of the subdivision in April, before the Boyds had visited the site. He said that he painted it over.

Whether it's a bunch of kids with way too much time on their hands and ignorance in their heads or a serious threat of harm against the Boyds, it's time for some extra security around that complex to put this stupidity to rest.
