Sukhwant Herb was sentenced to 50 days in solitary confinement on Riker's Island for refusing to allow her 9-year-old son to pay a visit to his dad, who is imprisoned for raping several women, two of which were teens.
The brave mom stuck to her guns and ignored a court order mandating her to send her young son, Seon, to visit his father twice a year at an Arizona state prison. The boy's father, Seon Jonas, 31, who was convicted back in 2003, is serving a 27-year sentence for raping three women.
While the 29-year-old woman did agree to visitation back in September, she chose not to abide by her original agreement and told the New York Daily News in a phone call:
"I don't want my son in that environment, seeing the prisoners in jumpers, and the slamming of gates, the noise. My son is 9, and it's horrible, horrific."
According to the spokesman for the state Office of Court Administration, David Bookstaver, the East, N.Y., mom was given ample opportunities to modify the court order for visitation. Bookstaver also says that Herb was negligent with answering simple questions, such as where her son went to school in order to avoid doing jail time. He also told the Daily News that she missed a total of five court dates.
Herb, on the other hand, refutes what Bookstaver says:
"I kept telling the judge where I was living, that I had a house in Ohio and was planning to move there with my son. But [the judge] kept screaming at me, 'I don't believe you, I don't care. I don't believe you.'"

why in the world would she agree to allowing her child to visit his father in a prison to begin with, especially knowing that he is a rapist?! She should've contacted the the judge to rescind the order! Why would a judge throw her in jail because she wants to protect her child. This is some ridiculous shyt! The judge should be ashamed of himself/herself.. Please, i wish they would enforce visitation for deadbeat fathers the way they did to this woman. A mess..

What next have the child present during the execution . The judicial system needs an overhaul. The one thing I get upset about is the lack of common sense.

Absolute lack of common sense. Exactly where is the hard crime here. In Africa, it is a bad omen to see Police at your door let alone taking you to jail just for about any offence.
I just gave a friend a ride to the child support office in the company of the child in question who is now approaching 21 and was visiting his dad for Father's day.
The man has been good on the payment untill he lost his job through no fault of his own. The balance he owes is 4k+. He recently found out his driver's license has been suspended in his search for a driver's position. He was denied the job.
Of what benefit is this suspension to the State or to this child who according to the dad, is working.
The state wanted him to come to their office, to go here, to go there but how?
I will understand if the child in question is still a minor but here, we have a grown up child who had bought his dad a fathers day gift coming out of her paycheck.
Suspension of driver's license, in this man's case, sounds illogical. It is a back payment. Couldn't there be a workable arrangement other than to render people mentally useless and incapacitated?
There must be a revolt against all these stupid judges who had turned this nation into a nation of prisoners by not applying common sense in jurisprudence.

I understand the mother's position, however, she should have not agreed when the ideal was presented.
You can't ignore a court order and if you do off to jail you will go..it was twice a year vistation-do it.. or summons the court why it wouldn't be a good ideal for the child.. otherwise risk going to jail..
For the Judge to sent her to Rikers is kinda harsh and 50 days served is ridiculous..

Obviously, this judge has lost his mind. While trying to work out this crazy visitation order (which the mom probably originally agreed to under duress)I think he could have found a better way than to incarcerate the child's mom. Just what we need in the judicial system, another person with no common sense.

I feel the mom should have never agreed in the first place. I couldn't believe the comment the mom made for the reason why she didn't want for her son to see his father; "I don't want my son in that environment, seeing the prisoners in jumpers, and the slamming of gates, the noise. My son is 9, and it's horrible, horrific."?
Why couldn't she say, "I don't want my son seeing his father after what he did to those 3 woman he raped. I don't want for my son to grow up end up like him and harm anybody. I want to protect my son by him not visiting his father".
I feel sorry for the boy? No, it wasn't right for the judge to put her in jail for that many days but, she should have answered the questions where her son went to school to avoid this jail time and shouldn't have missed 5 court dates. I feel this could have been avoided? Serial Rapist like that MONSTER should never get out of jail because they will REPEAT!
