Michael Jackson's former playmate and friend Bubbles the chimp is now a fully grown primate in need of financial support. The animal asylum that keeps him is asking for personalized adoption opportunities from the public by way of monetary donations.
Bubbles, who is now 27 years old, left his beloved owner Michael when he began to grow too strong to be around people.
During Bubbles' heyday, Michael, who purchased him as an infant from a Hollywood trainer, took him everywhere. They were inseparable. If Michael had press commitments, Bubbles would be right there beside him. The celeb chimp soon became a star in his own right, appearing in films, television shows and music videos.
At age 5, Bubbles even toured with Michael throughout Japan. The superintelligent chimp also learned how to moonwalk.
After Michael and Bubbles parted company, Bubbles wound up at the Center for Great Apes, a Florida animal compound, with other chimps who had also been performers for most of their lives.
Now the sanctuary is asking for donations to help with the care of the chimp, who they classify as being "smart, distinctive and tender." For a gift of $150, you will receive a certificate, membership at the sanctuary for a year and a photograph of Bubbles with a small bio attached.
If you're feeling more generous and happen to donate $10,000, the sanctuary will deem you the "exclusive adoptive parent" for a year. You will also be given the opportunity to stay overnight in a guest cabin on the sanctuary estate.
To commemorate the anniversary of her brother Michael's death, LaToya recently went to visit the old family friend. LaToya, who was grief-stricken when she laid eyes on Bubbles, allowed her reunion to be filmed by the Discovery Channel's "Animal Planet" (check your local listings for air dates). The reunion show is entitled: "Michael Jackson & Bubbles: The Untold Story." Check out the clip from the show:
