Two Tampa Cops Gunned Down During Traffic Stop

Two Tampa police officers are dead, and the man accused of killing them is on the run after a routine traffic stop turned deadly.

Police say officers David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab (pictured above) stopped a car driven by Cortnee Nicole Brantly for not having a visible license plate. In the passenger seat was career criminal Dontae Rashawn Morris, who had outstanding warrants for writing bad checks.

Sometime after the officers approached the passenger side of the car, the men were shot down.

Brantly drove away but was later captured, while Morris ran on foot. She was released from custody but may be charged later.

One of the officers was the father of four sons; the other was a rookie officer who is survived by a newborn son.

This incredibly sad story should end with Morris turning himself into police, as his family has requested, before others are needlessly hurt.

Morris had been found not guilty of attempted first-degree murder and other serious charges in 2006, according to published reports.
