Crystal Gale Mangum, 31, the woman who accused members of the Duke lacrosse team of rape, held a press conference in her yard on Wednesday to announce that the new charges against her, involving arson and attempted murder, are false. Mangum couldn't hold the press conference in the driveway of her home, because she she's under house arrest, but she did treat reporters to hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, deviled eggs and fruit salad. (Just kidding about that last part.)What is true is that she called reporters to explain why she allegedly assaulted her boyfriend, set his clothes on fire in a bathtub and threatened to stab him as her children, 3, 9, and 10, and police officers watched.
That's right, police officers were already there after one of the children called them about the domestic violence dispute. When officers arrived on the scene, Mangum gave them a fake name and age, and as they processed her information, she allegedly ran upstairs to light the fire in the tub. The police then called the fire department, which put the fire out.
Anyway, back to the cookout.
Mangum told reporters that she will likely not get a fair trial because of the Duke lacrosse case, that her ex-boyfriend abused her and that someone else must have set the fire because she didn't. Maybe it was the police that set the fire. Or maybe her ex-boyfriend set his own clothes on fire. Maybe the kids were feeling a chill and wanted to keep warm, so they started a little campfire. There are many potential scenarios.
Personally, I'm not so much interested in this circus as I am in who attended this circus. Which reporters said, "Yeah, I'm going to go listen to what she has to say, and I'm going to write it down and edify the public." These people are almost as twisted as I am for writing about this.
Mangum's next court date is Friday. Maybe there will be hamburgers.

It doesn't matter how the outcome of her murder case will come out, it doesn't automatically qualify her in being a liar in the Duke LaCrosse incident. I don't know what happened to Crystal,but there is no doubt that something happened to her and judging buy reading some of the stories from those guys, I wouldn't call them innocent myself. If we're accusing Crystal of lying because of what happened to her boyfriend, then those guys from Duke should be found guilty of raping her because of the "Animal House" like behavior they displayed at that party the had at the time.
We as Black people should know better than that. Our history..we should know what we're capable of going through because our forefathers and foremothers have gone through and what injustices Black people go through today. She's Black( Strike 1), poor( Strike 2) , menally ill( strike 3) and she was a stripper( Strike 4). People will use these things against you to look guilty.

It doesn't matter how the outcome of her murder case will come out, it doesn't automatically qualify her in being a liar in the Duke LaCrosse incident. I don't know what happened to Crystal,but there is no doubt that something happened to her and judging buy reading some of the stories from those guys, I wouldn't call them innocent myself. If we're accusing Crystal of lying because of what happened to her boyfriend, then those guys from Duke should be found guilty of raping her because of the "Animal House" like behavior they displayed at that party the had at the time.
We as Black people should know better than that. Our history..we should know what we're capable of going through because our forefathers and foremothers have gone through and what injustices Black people go through today. She's Black( Strike 1), poor( Strike 2) , menally ill( strike 3) and she was a stripper( Strike 4). People will use these things against you to look guilty.
