South Carolina Democratic Senate nominee Alvin Greene should run a campaign or fade back into the shadows.
Greene, an unemployed military veteran with no political experience and no money, beat former state lawmaker Vic Rawl by a margin of 50 percent to 41 percent. Greene didn't even campaign.
Many have questioned how Greene, who was granted a public defender for a charge of showing obscene photos to a college student, came up with the $10,000 election-filing fee.
He has been completely incoherent in some interviews. Some have questioned whether he is a Republican plant, and Rawl has asked for an investigation into voting machine irregularities.
Nothing has come of those investigations yet, but Greene wouldn't be the first incoherent candidate (Sarah Palin's incoherent ramblings have made her a media star and a wealthy woman). All of which means Greene is the candidate for now, and he needs to start acting like one if he wants to be taken seriously.
Instead, the picture of Greene keeps growing more odd. He was a withdrawn teen referred to as "turtle." He's suffered some painful setbacks in his life, with the death of his mother from cancer and a younger brother from cystic fibrosis. Those in his hometown say he is smarter than he looks, but Greene has yet to prove it.
The AP writes:
At the small businesses surrounding his hometown about 50 miles southeast of Columbia, plenty of people have heard of Greene. But from the post office to the small diners to the shop that sells CDs and other merchandise, few know much about him. ....After dozens of interviews, the candidate has begun to shun reporters, wearily asking what the story is going to be about and sometimes refusing to talk.
"I've told him he needs to get people to do that kind of stuff, but he's hardheaded and doesn't listen," said Greene's brother James Jr.
Even at the barbershop, where most black men aren't afraid to chop it up about politics and life in general, Greene remains quiet, his barber said.
Still, Greene says he's excited about challenging Republican Jim DeMint.
"I want a debate. A September debate," Greene said after he won the primary. "A good September debate, just compare and contrast the issues."
Well, it's July now and Greene owes the voters an explanation about how he plans to improve South Carolina and the nation. We are at war with record-breaking joblessness, busted infrastructure and a broken immigration system.
Voters need to hear where Greene stands on these issues. Nothing I've heard from the man thus far makes me confident that he's capable of explaining his position on these issues. If not, he should step aside.

1.Greene is the candidate for now and he needs to start acting like one if he wants to be taken seriously.
Why, he won!
2.Those in his hometown say he is smarter than he looks, but Greene has yet to prove it.
What does he have to prove, he won!
3.“Well, it's July now and Greene owes the voters an explanation about how he plans to improve South Carolina and the nation”.
Why, He won!
4.Voters need to hear where Greene stands on these issues.
Why, He won!
5.Nothing I've heard from the man thus far makes me confident that he's capable of explaining his position on these issues
Unless you are registered to vote in South Carolina, who cares, He won!
6.If not, he should step aside.
How many campaigns have you run, Unless its is proven that Mr. Green broke the law, HE WON!
You guys, kill me, bashing this guy. He maybe lacking in alot of areas, but the fact is they voted for him, period! Nobody asked his position on anything, and he won!
No the story, you and boykins don't want to write is about the South Carolina Democratic voters who voted for Mr Green. He won, they get what they voted for, the get what they deserve.
Until it is proven he broke the law, Get off this guys back
You say HE WON as if that's something to be proud about! However, incoherency is not a major characteristic for any candidate. He won on paper some kind of way but is surely making a fool out of himself now. I feel sorry for him too. I saw some interviews and he speaks as if he had been at a bar drinking for an entire day. I didn't hear any kind of intelligence. Just appeared to be some back woods, uneducated person that someone found to get into the race and I don't mean that in a mean spirited way. Who pretends to be a bumbling idiot?
The question is not about a bumbling idiot, but who voted for the bumbling idiot. They voted for the guy, and no matter how many different ways you guys bash this guy You can’t escape one fact. HE WON!
Instead of questioning his competency, shouldnt you be questioning the competency of South Carolina democrats.
Let the man run his campaign the way he sees fit. No other black man had the wherewithal or guts to sacrifice $10,000 to run or the ambition or vision to do so. Others who has done nothing but complain and grumble should shut up. Stop getting ideas from the media as if you indeed are sheeps or cattle. Either do something beneficial yourself or get out of the way. see www.pyramidoftruth.com
This is so obvious.....the guy was a GOP plant. SC has an open voting system which means you don't have to be registered to any party. (which is the exact reason why states shouldnt have open systems) so the results are either the GOP had a massive organisation of repubs voting for a dem. Also remember that in some SC counties there were actually more votes counted that voters registered. So either way AL is a scam.....what will be more embarrasing will be the uncover of the scam.
One thing to keep io mind, that continues to get overlooked, is that in SC you can cross vote in primaries. This means that Republicans can vote in a Democratic Primary and vice versa. This is what happened, I believe. Republicans voted in the Democratic Primary for the person they knew was the weaker of the candidates. The one that would not pose a threat to DeMint. Also, if anyone had reservations about DeMint, they would look at Greene and choose the lesser of two evils. Greene will get more than his pride hurt in the general election for Senator. I hate if for SC and more so for Black South Carolinans.
