Andrew Cuomo, the attorney general for the state of New York, accused landlords in a Brooklyn apartment complex of discriminating against black residents and potential tenants. The AG sued the owners and managers of 1648 - 50 Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn, saying that they were in violation of civil rights and fair housing laws by not showing their units to black applicants.
"These buildings failed the test. They violated the law," Cuomo said.
The suit was filed after a probe by Cuomo's office found that black and white test cases were given disparate treatment. Black applicants were often told that there were no apartments available, when in fact there were. The company, Golden Touch Management, has refused to comment on the case against them.
This is not the only Brooklyn property Cuomo has gone after. He has also reached a settlement with owners of another Brooklyn complex that was also accused of violating fair housing laws and failing to provide anti-discrimination training for their agents.
I am a New Yorker, and it looks like Andrew Cuomo has a very good chance to become the next governor of our state. A Cuomo win might be good for New Yorkers, who have grown disgruntled with the current governor, David Paterson. I spoke with Paterson yesterday on Al Sharpton's radio show, and to be truthful, I believe he is just as competent as Cuomo. In fact, Paterson's ability to overcome his blindness makes him even more impressive than Cuomo.
But when economic times get tough, people seek out new leadership. Cuomo is part of the fresh start that New Yorkers are looking for, and this anti-discrimination suit is likely going to help him eat in to Paterson's African-American base. But if the economy fails to recover early in Cuomo's term, his fate may be similar to Paterson's.

BG, you must not be black. And if you are, then there's a book in tribute to a specific cabin which you own.

The Civil Rights Act was enacted because of people like you. And you, and others like you, are the reason why this law will never be repealed. It's biggots like you that would have us live like we did in the old days of Jim Crow. Should I generalize that all whites are jerks because you just happen to be one?
To all voters, your families, and your friends, please, please, please, get out and vote and stay proactive in your communities.

I'm a black man and I live in predominately black neighborhood. Yes there are just as many whites that trashes the neighborhood as there are blacks. But it really upsets me to see how filthy my own people can be...

drag dog and bg your comments were very interesting and educational especially drag dog I got me a good history lesson at 60 yrs old.I have seen this problem here in Texas by "all races".I applaud Mr Cumo for his efforts,it may be politically motivated but from a distance down through the years I have heard of the Cumo Family ,and there are otheres who have done things to help those who are being discrimiated in one way or the other in this country. There are others who come to the aid of others. We should all know but for the Grace of God we could be in those same conditons so think on others and do what we can by making people in charge aware of people being over charged in these neighborhood stores own by all races and our own Black Race!! and others that are slum lords renting to anyone to get a buck.I don't want to live anywhere unkept myself and I have lived in my neighborhood 28 yrs and since Katrina I have seen some things I am not happy about and I have made both my manaagement company/ the owners of these properties aware I am not going to live in a "SLUM".Let us all be proactive and do what we can to keep our little part of America a safe-clean place to live and enjoy for ourselves and or childrens' children. Life is a beautiful thing and so precious and should not be waited on Mr Billy or any or any other negative being who want to take us back to Jim Crow or anywhere else back in history so Disgraceful.
