In an interview with London's Daily Mirror, the notoriously provocative rock star, 52, dismissed using the Web to release his upcoming record, '20Ten.'
"The Internet's completely over," Prince told the Mirror. "[It's] like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated."
The 'Purple Rain' rocker is putting his money where his mouth is. Rather than use contemporary outlets like iTunes to release his new material, Prince is going an unconventional route: '20Ten' will be released abroad as a free giveaway in certain newspapers around Europe.
The Mirror will be carrying the album for London fans. The singer has also blasted the intellectual value of the Net.
"All these computers and digital gadgets are no good," said the singer, who also shut down his official Website. "They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you."
But in addition to Prince's disillusionment with the Web, the '20Ten' giveaway is a business decision for the singer.
"I don't see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else," he told the paper. "They won't pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can't get it."

I love me some prince here is a true black man he knows that the white Jew music industry is just trying to take his music and control him he got out from under them figured out away to control and distribute his own music and keep most of the money in his pocket other artists need to start working with him and learn how to keep most of the money they make at home look at Michael Jackson black folk need to wake the f up signing with Sony and others while the control all your catalogs and continue to make money off your name while your family have to beg for crumbs like the jack sons.

I don't think the internet is dead, but I do think the recording industry business model needs to join the rest of us in the 21st century. Prince has always had a problem with his record companies giving him adequate and appropriate financial compensation. At least that's what he has claimed. That's why he changed his name to that symbol so that his record company would have problems marketing his work. He has never been in love with record companies. He is not the only artist to complain about how they were getting paid. George Michael, Ice Cube, and TLC are just a few names that have claimed they were not being properly paid for their work. I think there has always been a problem with artists being paid what they should be. Itunes and digital downloads have only added to an already existing problem. A corporation will cut an artist's pay before they cut their own and that is probably what has really got Prince riled up. They want him to do his best so that they can sell millions of albums, but when its time to give him his cut of the money he comes up short. Evidently Prince ain't trying to hear that. The internet may be dead to HIM because they don't want to give him his money. I can kind of understand that.

Actually with the steady emergence of cloud computing and companies like OnLive.com that offer gaming without the use of a game system and Google Chrome providing productivity applications anywhere directly. In other words we won't use the current infrastructure of the World Wide Web as he had 20 years ago. The internet WILL die in a sense in the next 10 years, but not many people will notice. Those who have used the internet will think they still are and those using the newer Cloud will take it for granted. It's like introducing the first airplane, and realizing you can go to the moon.

Prince is absolutely right. People will soon realize that their mind is melting and get back to the basics. Too much of anything is not good & the internet can be addicting.

MTV may be dead but certainly not the internet. Prince is just cutting his earnings short for not wanting his music on the internet. This is with all due respect, but I disagree with him. Yes, there is a lot of junk on the internet but there is also a lot of useful stuff. And what he says is something somebody his age plus would say.

Whether Prince is right or wrong, one must acquiesce in the fact that his ability to operate from without the conceptual box, free from the constraints of industry dogmatism and at times, perhaps reason, is what has kept his career alive..
